Pets In Practice

This little cutie is Ziggy, the 4 month old Cocker Spaniel, who was referred to us not using his front right leg.

Surgeon Shane performed radiographs on sweet little Ziggy and discovered that he had sustained a
right lateral humeral condylar fracture! This was reduced and stabilised using a 3.5 x 32mm transcondylar screw and a laterally applied (small) 2.4mm locking LEAP plate.

Little Ziggy stayed with us for monitoring and pain relief over and, as you can see, was having a fantastic time getting all the attention from the nursing team!

There’s nothing quite like the smile of a happy patient and the joy it brings to the people who love them.

From wagging tails and curious whiskers to those precious moments when a pet is feeling better again, our favourite part of veterinary care is helping animals get back to doing what makes them happiest.

Meet the Team Monday

Clare manages our nursing team and duties, including monitoring anaesthetics, inpatient care, and placing intravenous catheters. She also provides hydrotherapy treatment for in and outpatients.

Having qualified at a local mixed practice, Clare joined us in 2009 and has completed a BSAVA Merit award in rehabilitation and, in 2018, completed her certificate in hydrotherapy.

She has a busy home life, with two children, two miniature Dachshunds, a cat, two horses and six pygmy goats!

We know how important it is that you are connected to your pet during the time they stay with us.

Under the leadership of Director Shane Morrison, our team of experienced Vets, dedicated Veterinary Nurses, and Ward Assistants provide top-notch care, ensuring each patient is treated with love and attention during their stay at Christchurch Veterinary Referrals, we prioritise communication and care.

Pet owners are always briefed by the Operating Surgeon and receive detailed post-operative instructions. Our facilities feature air-filtered theatres, modern monitoring equipment, and an in-house hydrotherapy unit.

We also encourage all pet owners to sign up to PetsApp, a free of charge app that allows our team to share images, updates and videos with you directly so you can feel confident and reassured that they are recovering well post surgery.

This gorgeous boy is Mylo, the Swiss Shepherd who was seen this week after undergoing a right ununited anconeal process excision and
proximal dynamic ulnar osteotomy six weeks ago.

Surgeon Shane performed radiographs which indicated that the osteotomy had fully healed and that there is no further osteoarthritic deterioration in the right elbow! Lucky for Mylo, a gradual increase in controlled lead exercise is now possible.
