Week 1 of our 1st trick training classes.
Two familiar faces to my classes joined us and two new ones.
We started to lay the foundations of beginner tricks.
I want to emphasise that ‘trick’ training has so many benefits. We are looking at how we can adapt some of the tricks to life skills, increase focus and strengthen the bond through fun.

If you would like to see what is included in my Trick Classes I have a monthly class on Sunday 25th October at 3pm being held at Freston Village Hall. Only £16.
Suitable for dogs of any age but they must be able to cope in a class environment. Booking link ⬇️

Do you meet all your dog’s needs?
How does your dogs average day look?
Most of you will probably include a walk as part of their exercise needs.
And you may now be including enrichment activities like puzzle feeding or scent work.
But what about training? Did that stop when the puppy classes finished?
I feel we do our dogs a disservice when we stop exercising their minds and focus solely on exercising them physically.
To provide our dogs with a fulfilled life I truly believe we should be looking at The Trilogy and trying to include Exercise, Enrichment and (reward based) Training on a regular if not a daily basis.
If you can’t meet one of the elements you should try to complete at least two of the others.
Now before you all start to exclaim you don’t have time to do additional activities with your dog all three elements can be achieved on your daily walks; play hunting games with your dog, leave the ball flinger at home and put some structure into your games. Take food rewards out with you and include some basic training with life’s distractions around you.
It really doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming but try to include The Trilogy in your dogs daily routine.

Adolescence can be a tricky stage to navigate.

During adolescence it can feel your dog is giving you a hard time when in reality they are having a hard time!

It can feel like you’re failing your dog, you invested in puppy training and it’s all going wrong!

Now is the time to book those 1:1 lessons so I can help you understand what is happening, why it feels it’s going wrong and how we can start to strengthen the bond.

Trick Training Classes
Want to try something new with your dog?
I am running a 3 week course for you and your dog to come along to to learn some fun and easy tricks.
Trick training has been shown to
• Strengthen the bond between a dog and their guardian.
• Provide mental stimulation (for both)
• Improve focus
• Improve proprioception (body awareness)
And importantly
• is mutual fun!

If you have taught your dog to sit then you have already taught your first trick!
All tricks will be adapted to you and your dogs ability.
Why not come along to this fun social class?
Small, relaxed class (maximum of 4) so everyone gets the attention they need!

I love this anticipation (pattern) game, it has so many uses but it is especially great for recall!
Using anticipation in training can build excitement and triggers ‘feel good’ hormones which is exactly what we want for a recall.

I worked with a great team yesterday. We were working on loose lead walking but my client broke one of my rules!
She wore Flip Flops!
Now I love flip flops, I’m wearing a pair as I write this post but they are really not suitable footwear for training or walking your dog especially if they have the potential to pull!
They are a tripping hazard and really not suitable footwear.
Other than the nagging from me (obviously delivered kindly 😂) we had a lovely lesson, she already feels more confident going forward in her training and she’s promised me she will wear more appropriate footwear for our next lesson!
