One of the most common bird feeder problems has a surprisingly simple solution 🌶️

If squirrels have been helping themselves to your feeder, try dusting the seed with a pinch of mild chilli powder. Mammals are sensitive to capsaicin, the compound that gives chillies their heat, while birds have no receptors for it, so your feathered visitors won't notice a thing.

A light dusting is all you need, and it's worth topping it up after heavy rain, as the powder washes away.

Fledgling on the ground? Don’t panic! 👀

It’s normal for young birds to spend a few days hopping around as they learn to fly.

Watch from afar: Their parents are likely to be nearby.

💡 Unless injured, it’s best not to interfere.

What is the Dawn Chorus? 🐦⁣

The first bird begins to sing an hour before sunrise. Amongst those early risers are Blackbirds, Robins and Skylarks. Followed by those more sensitive to the cold including Warblers and Wrens. ⁣

Singing is strenuous work but, it pays off. Females will choose a mate who produces the best and strongest song!
