How a childhood fascination became a career behind the lens… 🦅🌿

Bird of the Month: Robin

September marks the beginning of autumn, and one garden visitor you’re likely to hear (and see!) more often is the much-loved robin.

With their bright red breast and cheerful song, robins are a familiar sight in British gardens. As the days get shorter, they become increasingly territorial, often perching proudly in shrubs, hedges and trees while keeping a close eye on their patch.

One of the most common bird feeder problems has a surprisingly simple solution 🌶️

If squirrels have been helping themselves to your feeder, try dusting the seed with a pinch of mild chilli powder. Mammals are sensitive to capsaicin, the compound that gives chillies their heat, while birds have no receptors for it, so your feathered visitors won't notice a thing.

A light dusting is all you need, and it's worth topping it up after heavy rain, as the powder washes away.
