Having a planted aquarium can benefit your tank massively, this includes the welfare of you inhabitants (fish, shrimp, snails etc) making their home as natural as possible can reduce stress and better their quality of life due to the plants doing a fantastic job of removing nasty water qualities such as ammonia and reducing your nitrite making your life easier due to less water changes being needed (once your tank has fully cycled)!! In my opinion I also think it looks much nicer and prettier and you can definitely tell your fish appreciate it.
