Animals in Distress - Torbay & Westcountry

Animals in Distress - Torbay & Westcountry Animals in Distress is a local animal welfare charity that takes in, cares for and rehomes hundreds of cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs every year.

The Animal in Distress Rescue Centre is based at Ipplepen, near Newton Abbot, Devon. Animals come to the Rescue Centre for a variety of reasons, including bereavement, illness, breakdown of relationships, financial hardship, straying, cruelty, neglect or abandonment. When the lives of South Devon’s pets fall apart, Animals in Distress is here to pick up the pieces. We aim to never turn away an

animal in distress, and it is our policy to give them the best possible care while they are waiting to be rehomed. Every effort is made to ensure that prospective owners find the right pet for them. Home checks are carried out, and all animals are checked by our veterinary surgeon. All cats and dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and neutered before rehoming. Without the help of our generous supporters in the local community and beyond, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide this vital service. Thank you so much for your support.

πŸ’” 231 days in rescue for Maverick.
For more than seven months, Maverick has been waiting for his happy ending.
While many of his kennel mates have found their forever homes, Maverick is still patiently waiting for someone to see what a special boy he is. 🐾❀️

Maverick, a 5 year old French Bulldog X Pug, is looking for a quiet home where he won't be left for long periods, as he finds being alone very difficult. He'd love to be the only pet in the home so he can soak up all the attention, and any children would need to be aged 15+.

Despite his long wait, Maverick hasn't lost his love of life. He's an energetic boy who enjoys his walks, adores his toys, and has so much love to give to the right person.

Surely there's someone out there with a Maverick-shaped space in their heart and home? If you could offer this boy the loving home he deserves, please get in touch.

In the cattery we have recieved a lovely rehoming update on Kenco, a feral cat who couldn’t be touched here at the centre!😯β™₯️

β€˜β€™Hello, I wanted to share some photos of Osbert (previously Kenco) who I adopted from you at the end of March!

Os has settled in amazingly. It was a month or so before I could touch him but now he loves strokes and attention and always seems excited to see me. He plays all the time, especially with his favourite pom-pom, and he's been exploring outside (although I think he likes the housecat life).

He hasn't been sure about sitting on beds or sofas up til now, but just this morning he jumped up on the bed with me (last photo!)

He's a great example of how adopting a semi-feral cat can be really special and rewarding ❀️ thank you for bringing us together.

⚽ Charity Football Match – Tuesday, 9th June 2026 ⚽
The amazing staff and crew at Splashdown Quaywest are lacing up their boots for a charity football match in support of us as their Charity of the Year for 2026.
This is just one of the many fantastic fundraising activities they have planned throughout the year, and we're incredibly grateful for their support.
If you'd like to watch what is sure to be a fiercely competitive match, come along and cheer them on!
See the poster for full details. We hope to see you there! πŸŽ‰βš½

Harriet has been having a very lazy Bunday Monday! πŸ°πŸ’š

Harriet has pasteurella, so we're hoping to introduce her to Mason, who also has the condition. If they get on well, they'll be able to find a home together without putting any healthy rabbits at risk.

Pasteurella is a bacterial infection that commonly affects rabbits' respiratory systems, often causing symptoms such as sneezing, snuffles and runny eyes or noses. With the right care and treatment, many rabbits with pasteurella can still enjoy happy, comfortable lives. πŸ’•

Please keep your fingers crossed that it's a love match for these two! 🀞🐰🐰
