Does your dog want an extra walk through the week? Wether it’s a walk up the hill through forestry, or an amble across flatter ground or perhaps a bit of play mixed with a warm up and cool down time. Whatever your dog needs, I can make a walk to suit. Some spaces for regular dog walks have opened up in the New Year mornings and afternoons. Please get in touch if it’s something your dog needs

⚠️Did you know this week is "Dog Bite Prevention Week"??⚠️

We'll be sharing some information every day this week on how to prevent bites & also how to read dog's body language to see how comfortable they are or if they maybe need to be let go & chill out in a quieter room away from visitors/kids who may be too energetic or loud/delivery people etc.

We are our dog's advocates & it's our responsibility as owners to ensure our dog is happy & not pushed to the point of a bite because he/she feels there is no other choice. A bite is the last step in a chain of signals which can often go unnoticed if we don't pay careful attention to-yawning, looking away, liplicking, ears pinned back, stiff body, whale eye & raised body hair are just a few to look out for.

Please make sure to share our Dog Bite Prevention Week posts this week as it's so important that they reach as many people as possible.

If we can help keep dogs, kids & other family members/visitors safe & happy then we'll consider the posts very worthwhile. 👍🐾

This is Little 🐝s set up for the next few days.

He has his crate, that is warm, comfortable and covered. He is used to his crate an knows that it provides a safe ‘den’ for him. He often finds treats, chews and toys in it.

The fan, displaces the air around the crate, this lessens the ‘jolt’ to the air as the fireworks go off. He’s used to the fan and the noise of it.

He’s listening to Pet Classics on Classic fm. Louder than I would like.

The crate door is open, important for him to be able to climb into his safe den, and also for him to get out when things quite down and his confidence returns

He always has reassuring words from us and a nice tasty chew to take his mind of his worries

If you have a fearful dog like me, you will understand how grateful I am for prior warning of fireworks. This allows me to take steps to ensure my dog is comfortable and settled.

I set up his crate inside the house making it as comfortable as possible, with a heavy blanket over the top shutting out the light. The door is left open, and he can come and go as he pleases.

With many dogs, it is not just the ‘bangs’ and ‘whizzzies’ that upset them from fireworks, but the ‘thud’ in the air and the flashing lights. Setting up a fan around the crate can help as it displaces the surrounding air. Having the curtains pulled, the tv on helps too. This is why ‘silent’ fireworks, don’t work for all dogs.

If your dog is used to seeking comfort from you when afraid, then continue it. Not comforting and reassuring them WILL NOT stop them from being afraid as many suggest. Curling up behind my knees with a blanket over the top of him and a reassuring word, really makes a lot of difference to wee 🐝

Music with a good steady beat and patted him along with the beat. It worked wonders for him. He is terrified of thunder, fireworks and low flying planes.
