Dinky came in as a small hoglet in late September, rescued by Tracy just in time! He was covered in fleas and had severe mange on his belly and around his face. Getting rid of the fleas and then the mite which causes mange was the easy part. Poor Dinky had lots of very sore ‘scabs’ which had to be gently removed through gently massages during baths. Now he has healthy skin and his fur is beginning to grow back - fortunately he loves his baths. Such a sweet wee boy and now weighing over 500 grams so well on the radical recovery ❤️

I spent a lovely morning with the ladies from Leuchars Women’s Guild yesterday. It was heartwarming to know that so many people care very deeply about our prickly pals, were keen to learn more and also gave the rescue a very generous donation to help us continue our work to rescue and rehabilitate hedgehogs. Thank you ladies, on behalf of everyone here at HogsCroft I appreciated your welcome and attentiveness. 😊❤️🦔

❤️UPDATE - Someone has very kindly offered to help - thanks to all who have responded ❤️

🦔🚨 URGENT HEDGEHOG TRANSPORT APPEAL – MONTROSE 🚨🦔

Can you help get a little hedgehog to safety?

We have a hedgehog in Montrose who desperately needs rescue. Thankfully, a kind finder has secured it, we are currently full but two rescues have offered a space:

🦔 Hogwatch Dumbarton Hedgehog Rescue (HDHR) – Dumbarton

🦔 New ARC Wildlife Rescue – Aberdeenshire

❤️ The problem is transport. The finder is unable to travel, so we urgently need someone who can collect this little soul from Montrose.

You don’t need to complete the whole journey!

If you can transport the hedgehog directly to either rescue, that would be wonderful. Alternatively, if you can take it part of the way towards Dumbarton, one of their volunteers may be able to meet you and take over.

We’re also working with other rescues who may have volunteers able to help with different sections of the journey but unfortunately none closer currently have space as we are all overwhelmed with admissions.

With so few hedgehog rescues across Scotland, long-distance transport is sadly sometimes necessary.

But thanks to the incredible kindness of people on social media, we’ve never yet failed to find a way to get a hedgehog to rescue, regardless of the distance.

🙏 CAN YOU HELP WITH ALL OR PART OF THE JOURNEY? PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!

And if you can’t help, PLEASE SHARE FAR AND WIDE!

🦔 Two rescue spaces are waiting. We just need to get this little soul to one of them. 💚

Well remember the three little hoglets from Methven - Miss Tiggy, Teacup and Pixie - all girls? We thought that was it until on Tuesday this week Cath phoned us once again as she’d another one - this time a boy - little Buttons - just over 100 grams - as you can see he likes his food but not too keen to get out of bed for breakfast 😂. His sisters are growing fast so he has a bit of catching up to do. ❤️🦔

Helen from Scone, Summer from Dunkeld and Bruno from Auchterarder were all released home over the course of last week. Thank you to all finders for offering hedgehog houses and support feeding and giving these beautiful souls the best possible chance of a life back in the wild. We continue to receive a very high level of phone calls about hedgehogs needing help and sadly we cannot accommodate them all.
We try and answer the phone and offer advice on how to help them even when we are full. One point we need to stress - if you see a hedgehog out in the day it is NOT well - it may look fine, it. It may be eating and moving quickly - the very fact it is out in the day means it is unwell or potentially too tiny to look after itself. It is highly unlikely Helen, Summer and Bruno would have survived had they not received the care we offer.
Have a great life you three ❤️🦔
