Meet Judy 😍🫶🏻

Judy visited our Veterinary Nurse at Skipton for a health check, weight check and to collect her flea and worming treatment.

She was a brave girl throughout her visit, enjoyed plenty of treats, and was more than happy to pose for an extra cute photo! 🐾💖

We can’t wait to see you again 😍

Quarterly, our entire clinical team comes together for dedicated learning and development opportunities, helping us continue to provide the highest standard of care for our patients.

This quarter, we were delighted to focus on wildlife care and pain management, with our Skipton Lead Nurse Sam, leading an informative session on best practice for treating injured and unwell wildlife brought into the practice 🦔 and Clinical Director Nikki leading a discussion on pain management of our hospital and surgical patients and how pain is recognised in various species.

We were also pleased to welcome Tiffany from MSD, who delivered valuable training on treatment for itchy skin conditions and how we can best support pets experiencing dermatological issues.

A huge thank you to Nikki, Sam and Tiffany for sharing their expertise with the team 👩‍💻🐾

🦆💛 A little story with a happy ending...

This brave mum duck was hit by a car while looking after her babies. Thankfully, a kind member of the public brought her and her ducklings straight to us for help.

Our vets and nurses quickly assessed her injuries to find she had a wound on her foot that needed stitches. Our Veterinary Surgeon Bianca stitched this wound while Judith our Veterinary Nurse monitored the duck throughout.

After some much-needed care, mum duck was reunited with her babies and transferred safely to a Yorkshire Dales Wildlife Rescue to continue her recovery.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping this little family. Wishing mum duck a speedy recovery and many happy waddles ahead! 🦆✨.

🐾⚠️ Mouldy Food & Pets – A Hidden Danger ⚠️

Did you know that mouldy food, garden waste, and even compost heaps can be extremely dangerous to pets?

Moulds growing on food and organic material can produce toxic substances called tremorgenic mycotoxins. Dogs are particularly at risk because they love to scavenge, but cats can also be affected.

🚨 Signs of poisoning can develop very quickly, often within an hour of ingestion and may include:
• Vomiting
• Wobbliness or difficulty walking
• Tremors or muscle twitching
• Agitation and hyperactivity
• Excessive panting
• High body temperature
• Seizures in severe cases

These toxins can cause life-threatening illness, and symptoms may last for several days. Early veterinary treatment greatly improves the chances of a successful recovery.

To help keep your pets safe:
• Dispose of mouldy food promptly
• Keep rubbish bags and bins securely closed
• Consider a lockable bin if your pet enjoys scavenging
• Prevent access to compost heaps and garden waste
• Check outdoor areas regularly for discarded food or rotting vegetation

If you suspect your pet has eaten mouldy food, compost, or other decaying organic material, contact your veterinarian immediately even if they seem well at first.

🤔 We’ll never quite understand why some pets find mouldy food so irresistible! 🐾
