Grass can be a danger to your cats, if they are sneezing and coughing it could be a sign that they have a blade stuck so be aware πŸ’œ

When Ginge the cat started sneezing and coughing, his owner, Laura, knew something wasn’t right. Then he began struggling to breathe and sneezing blood, so she quickly got in touch with Nottingham Pet Wellbeing Centre, The Marian and Christina Ionescu Hospital, for help.

The team discovered a 10cm blade of grass stuck up Ginge’s nose! While it might sound unusual, grass can be really irritating for cats and can sometimes lead to infection if it gets lodged where it shouldn’t. The vets gently sedated Ginge and safely removed the grass, giving him instant relief.

Laura said, β€œYou couldn’t see anything stuck in his nose or mouth, so it must have been really far back. As soon as the vets got it out, Ginge was back to his normal self almost straight away. He started as a stray cat who used to come and sit in our garden. Until one day, he walked through the back door and never left! We tried to find out if he belonged to anyone, but nothing came of it. We wouldn’t be without him for the world – he’s an amazing cat. I can’t thank PDSA enough.”

If your cat likes nibbling on grass in the garden, keeping it trimmed short can help reduce the chance of longer blades getting stuck and causing problems 🌱
