Happy 4th Birthday Nya 🥳.

I still can’t believe you’re four.

You keep me on my toes every single day. You make me laugh, test my patience, make me think, and remind me why I love training so much. Life with you is never boring, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

You’ve challenged me more than any dog, but you’ve given me even more in return. You gave me purpose when I needed it most, and you still inspire me to learn more, train better and keep pushing myself.

Everything we’ve done, we’ve done together… and I know we’re only just getting started.

Happy Birthday, my girl. Just keep being you. 💜🤍

During the last hot spell, I took Nya out for what I thought was a safe early morning 20-minute walk. That day it was actually much cooler compared to previous days. On the way home she became unwell in the van. She was sick, dazed and completely not herself.

I can’t say exactly what caused it, but I truly believe the humidity played a part. The temperature felt fine, and I genuinely thought it would be okay for her but humidity can have a massive impact on our dogs, even when it doesn’t feel particularly hot to us.

It also made me realise how important it is to look at the individual dog in front of you. What one dog can cope with may be too much for another. Nya is a high energy working line breed, so there are no real “relaxing” walks for her - she’s always on the go, even on a short walk.

What feels comfortable to us, or even what another dog copes with perfectly well, may not be right for your own dog.

Please don’t just look at the temperature – check the humidity too especially if walking early morning and late at night 🐾

If you’ve been following this page for a while, you might remember my last update talked about getting things moving again, running workshops and being more present.

The truth is, I never quite got there.

I think I put a lot of pressure on myself to know exactly what I wanted and when I didn’t have the answers, I ended up doing nothing at all.

Losing Belle knocked my confidence and passion and whilst I talked about moving forward, I wasn’t quite ready and I found myself stepping away from a lot of things.

Over the last year I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on life with Nya, continuing to learn and thinking about what I wanted for AC ScentDogs and if I’m being honest - I still don’t have the answers, I still don’t know!

So rather than waiting until I have a perfect plan, I’m just going to try and start showing up again, no pressure just posting what we have been up to.

So you’ll probably see more of Nya, our walks, enrichment ideas, scent work snippets and general dog-related stuff.

Scent work isn’t about creating competition dogs, it’s about giving pet dogs an outlet that builds confidence, independence and focus.

I love working with hobby pet dogs and showing owners just how capable their dogs really are when given the chance to use their nose.

It’s one of the most rewarding things to train and to teach.

After three years of studying canine behaviour, I’ve finally completed the full course 🥳.

it’s been challenging, inspiring and incredibly rewarding. Even though my main focus right now is scent work, this knowledge has added so much depth to what I do. Here’s to never stopping learning and always striving to be better for the dogs we work with.
