I don’t actually like doing these posts..

Actually I do.

This gentleman thinks it’s okay for their dog to attack other dogs.

Then when it happens shrug his shoulders and walk away. Like it’s perfectly acceptable behaviour.

I will plaster people like this moron all over my social media because he is part of the problem of why there are so many bad dog owners because he thinks it’s just okay for his dog to exhibit these sh*te behaviours.

I’m not mad at his dog as it’s not the dogs fault but this specimens for not actually ensuring his is under control. You are in violation of the dangerous dogs act.

He is very lucky the dog he did it to today is nice and not something made of sterner stuff. Now the owner of the dog he attacked and me too may have to spend abit of time undoing what he has allowed his dog to do. Hopefully not.

So if you’re in St Ives or the surrounding area and see this clown walking his dog steer clear as he is incapable of controlling his dog.

If you’re the bloke in this photo and are reading this go get some training but not from me. Your attitude stinks and I don’t think you should own a goldfish let alone this dog.

Anyway happy Monday 🤡.

The dog training industry has become more concerned with being politically correct than being effective.

Too many trainers are more interested in defending their ideology than understanding the dog in front of them.

Training should be about welfare, understanding behaviour and delivering real results. Not egos, labels or popularity contests.

Dogs don’t care about your ideology. They live with the consequences of it and if you would rather put a dog down than try something different then you need to get the F out of here. 🎤⬇️

PUPPY CLASSES‼️‼️ and why I don’t do them.

I often get enquiries going along the line of “I’ve got a something breed puppy and am interested in puppy classes.”

To which I reply “sorry I don’t do them.”

Why?

Because to be honest I think they are done massively wrong. It’s teaching dogs some very basic commands in a group setting. No focus on engagement or environmental stimuli, two of the key actual parts of building a stable dog.

When people say they’re struggling what is often the answer?

“Oh yeah just keep trying it will come.” 🤷🏼‍♂️

On top of that they just let all the pups meet each other constantly with no limitations or boundaries and yeah looks cute and all that but does nothing for building that relationship with your dog at this pivotal development stage.

Being brutally honest puppy classes just seem like a money maker for trainers and that’s not saying every puppy class is bad as some probably do it right but the vast majority I’ve attended incognito and those that clients have attended have been an utter waste of time. ❌

Then eventually after paying x amount for a batch of puppy classes you come to the realisation of

A) this isn’t working and I’m struggling but the trainer doesn’t seem to be doing anything…

B] I don’t actually know why I’m coming here…

C) I feel like I’m just coming here for the social side to see the people I’ve met…

None of these are the reason you started these classes. The reason you started this class was to train your dog and build that relationship. To set solid foundations for the dog your puppy is going to be. ✅

Instead of puppy classes I do pack walks and obedience sessions where everything is structured and driven by handler engagement, neutrality and relationship. Because they are the most important aspects of training your dog and yes some 1-1’s too, because group training isn’t going to solve all of your training needs sometimes. ✅

Don’t waste your time with puppy classes find something that actually works building those solid foundations you want going forward.

E collar conditioning with Baloo.

E collars are a tool which are demonised by some. I’m a massive advocate for them and what they can do for a dogs life. Enabling freedoms and peace of mind for dogs and owners.

Some people won’t like this but I don’t particularly care. I’m all about helping dogs achieve the best in their life and Baloo being able to run round a beach in a safe way with his owner having peace of mind, I’m all about that.

The endless pursuit of excellence, dropping it like it’s hot everyday!! 🔥😮‍💨 🔥

Lots to improve on from today but I need to practise abit more obedience with Amon, I’ve been so focussed on Fiero I’ve not done as much with Amon. Time to re align and re engage.

THE CLICKS‼️⭐️‼️⭐️

I often to say to clients “that eventually it just clicks”.

What does that even mean, to me it means that the dog is demonstrating a behaviour consistently and clearly understanding what it means.

I like to think that training dog is much like breaking into a safe. (I’ve never robbed any banks I promise 👀).

Each behaviour is a click on that safe dial and however many clicks crack the safe. They’re usually difficult and not easy to do but they are well worth the reward.

I had one in the last couple of days that got me thinking about this. Fiero has struggled with his scentwork much like Arlo before him. I could sit and draw so many similarities in how they work I’d be here all day but that’s a different and sadder conversation.

However, he had been really struggling to show any enthusiasm and was struggling to understand the task.

That changed. It clicked. He is now working at a decent speed actively searching and indicating for an article. When it happened I could not stop smiling from ear to ear.

All this happened because of persistence and problem solving. There are few greater joys for me than watching something click with one of my own dogs to see that understanding and learning having taken place brings me an immense sense of achievement and gratitude that I am able to do this.

Fiero is now clicks along to becoming the dog he is going to be and I couldn’t be happier. With your own dogs keep putting in the time and showing up and wait for those magic moments to occur, because I promise you they are coming. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
