Clients ask me what method I use, and the honest answer is, I don’t stick to just one. I’ve learned from many trainers, but I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all system.
I focus on the horse in front of me and choose the approach that fits that horse’s personality. It’s also about what that horse is ready for, rather than forcing a step just because a book or video says so. Sometimes the right call is to wait, do less, or take a different path entirely.
That doesn’t mean I don’t have structure or a foundation to work from. I absolutely do. But, if I’m being honest, following a recipe online doesn’t always make a good cake. πŸ˜‰

These two had a little napping issue out hacking, so it’s been lovely to see how much their partnership has improved! πŸŽπŸ€—
They’re looking great, and their confidence is really starting to shine through. 🌟
Onwards and forwards… instead of onwards and upwards! πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ [email protected] 07717 061413

just like that… Abi Cross is off and cantering! πŸŽπŸ’¨πŸ‘
First canter ticked off the list, and what a little star he is! ⭐️
So proud of these two β€” they’re getting better and better with every session, and it’s lovely watching their partnership grow. πŸ€—

In this video, I'm working with a young foal, teaching him to lead, understand pressure and release, stand confidently for the farrier, and develop essential life skills that will set him up for a calm, successful future. Every lesson is built on patience, trust, and clear communication.

I've always found it interesting how Equestrians measure horse training in weeks or months rather than actual hours spent.

You often hear, "My horse has had six weeks of training at the trainers yard." But if that's one-hour sessions, five days a week, that's only around 30 hours of actual training.

At this rate, my bed has had more training than some young horses in six weeks... although it still hasn't won a rosette. πŸ˜„

Horses don't read calendars. They learn through quality time, consistency, and the hours we put into them.

Maybe the better question isn't, "How many weeks has your horse been in training?" but, "How many hours of quality training has your horse actually had?"

Room for thoughtπŸ’‘

🐎 Horsemanship

Young horse training and foal handling.

Pay attention to the foal's mum πŸ’‘

You can see in the video that the mare has already taught her foal to follow her. Keep your training consistent with what the mare has already established, and things become much simpler.

When people ask me, "What part of your work is natural horsemanship?" this is a great example to show.

The best place to start is with what the horse has already been taught.
