Thor is showing us the perfect way to stay cool during this hot weather with his tasty ice treat! 🧊😋

While we may be enjoying the sunshine, our pets can struggle in the heat. Here are some top tips to help keep them comfortable:

💧 Always provide fresh water
🌅 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
🧊 Offer frozen treats
❄️ Use cooling mats
🏊 Provide a paddling pool if your pet enjoys water
✂️ Keep up with regular grooming
☀️ Don’t forget dog-safe suncream for lighter-haired pets who are more prone to sunburn

⚠️ Signs of heatstroke to watch for:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness
• Vomiting
• Collapse
• Red or very pale gums

If you notice any of these signs, contact us immediately. In the meantime, move your pet to a cool, shaded area, apply cool (not ice-cold) water, and encourage them to drink small amounts.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted with us or simply came to support us at the Sawtry Carnival last weekend! ☀️🐾

We had such a wonderful day meeting so many people and their lovely dogs, and we’re delighted to share that the event was a great success. Together, we raised £98.00 which is absolutely incredible!

While this year’s event may have been a little different from previous years, we are so grateful for the amazing support, generosity, and donations we received throughout the day. Every contribution makes a real difference.

A special shoutout must go to the Sawtry team- what a fantastic job you done! 👏 And of course, thank you to Sawtry Carnival for having us.

For those who may not know, throughout the year we take part in a variety of charitable events and those funds go towards charities that are very close to us. The funds raised from this event will be donated to Vetlife, a charity that provides vital support to all veterinary professionals.

The veterinary profession experiences one of the highest rates of mental health challenges of any profession. Vetlife offers confidential support to the veterinary teams who dedicate their lives to caring for animals when they need it most. We are incredibly proud to support such an important cause.

The winner of the charity hamper was Poe! So well done to Poe who also won judges favourite! So a fab day for Poe!

This little cutie visited us last week and as you can guess had lots of cuddles.

Getting our young patients use to the vets is incredibly important, this allows them to feel more comfortable and even excited to visit us.

A good time to do this is during Flea and Worming consultations with our nursing team. Allowing your pet to have a few snacks, sit on the scales and have a cuddle or play. This creates a positive experience they will remember.

Veterinary Certificate-holders

Did you know within our vet team at Cromwell's we have 12 advanced certificates, with an additional 8 vets studying towards certificates alongside their full-time work.

Certificate-holder vets have higher level of knowledge and training past their original vet degree. It requires 1-3 years of additional university study with exams in a specific area of interest.

At Cromwell's this includes qualifications in:
- Internal Medicine
- Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery
- Emergency and Critical Care
- Cardiology
- Ophthalmology
- Dentistry
- Oncology
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Feline Practice

Our two Lead Vets Charlie and Katherine are also RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Medicine.

Our team are able to collaborate on cases sharing knowledge and expertise to provide the best care to our patients.

To ensure we continue providing the highest standard of care and service to you and your pets, all of our practices will be closed between 11:30am and 1:30pm today while our teams attend a practice-wide meeting.

This dedicated time allows all staff to come together, review important updates, share knowledge, and ensure we are providing consistent, accurate information and advice across all of our practices.

Orthopaedic procedures

At Cromwell Vets we are proud to offer orthopaedic procedures.

George, our orthopaedic vet, performs a range of surgeries on the knee including TPLOs and MPLs. Our team are often involved with fracture repairs, pin removals and limb amputations too.

Our nurses are often scrubbed into aid George with these surgeries by holding the patient's limb(s), handling instruments and/or assisting with placement of plates and screws.
