This is one of my new spiders, The Emperor. I adore him already.
Now, there is something different, and incredibly special, about The Emperor, Can you tell what it is? You might get a hint from this photo of him and his yoga instructor locust.
He is a mature male Phidippus Regius, aka regal jumping spider which might also help you guess. I'll post the answer in the comments. Did you guess correctly?

Here is just one of the many Jelly-Tots who have reached their 3rd instar, after enjoying their camping trip.

"Oh come on, that was funny. Did you lose a leg in the moult too or was it just your sense of humour?"

The tubby mallow decided to grace me with her presence today, so obviously I got nothing done and spent my time photographing her.
She looks to be all done with her egg cycle now, so she'll be at my side on the computer during the day.
Especially as Barcus is still hidden away, and my desk is such a lonesome space.
Thats a lie, I'm surrounded by spiders, but I need to complain about missing his little face.
Feel sorry for me please 🤣

It took 21 days for Minthara to moult, and she is stunning! Those pink and purple chelicerae don't just look good on her, they match her enclosure too.
Barcus shouldn't be much longer either as he's been hidden away for 17days now. I can't wait to see his sweet face again.

I made a lil friend while in France. A beautiful baby heliophanus flavipes.

Unfortunately the droughts over there have taken a toll on the jumping spider population. I had hoped to document variations in the European salticidaes, but alas, only this little one was out and about.
