Before there was PetAttix, there was the Dragons' Den.

My founder, Joanna Proud, once stood in that room and successfully secured a multi-Dragon deal. It was a significant moment, but it wasn't the beginning of her story as an entrepreneur.

Watching the long queues form at our stand at Crufts was an incredible moment.

Our idea for a marketplace started from a simple, private frustration: cupboards full of unused pet products. Launching the app at Crufts was the first time we put that idea out into the world.

We honestly weren't sure what to expect. But then we saw the queues of people waiting to scan our QR code. Over the four days, we had over 2,000 downloads and signups. People began listing items from day one, and the first sales were completed within hours of the app going live.

In that moment, we saw that our frustration wasn't just ours. It confirmed for us that so many other pet owners were looking for a better, more sustainable way to manage all the things we buy for our animals.

It's a feeling we believe many of us know well. You want the best for your pets, but you also hate seeing perfectly good items go to waste or end up in landfill. Seeing the community spring to life so instantly showed us we were on the right track to solving a problem so many of us face.

Today reminded me exactly why we created Pet Attix.

We spent time with the amazing team at Pet Rescue by Judy here in Florida and saw first hand the incredible work they do for animals in need.

We’ve volunteered to list their unwanted and donated pet items on Pet Attix. When they sell, the money goes directly to the rescue, helping them raise vital funds to keep their animals happy and healthy.

This is what Pet Attix is all about. Bringing the pet community together.

Pet owners can buy and sell new and preloved pet items, rescues can turn unwanted products into funds, and pet brands and businesses can showcase their products and connect with a dedicated pet community.

We’re now offering the same support to rescues and shelters across Florida.

One of the best things we've seen is how pet parents are coming together to give pre-loved items a whole new life.

It's a place where that harness that was slightly too big, or the toy that never quite became a favourite, can find a new home. Instead of gathering dust in a cupboard, these items get a chance to be useful again for another animal.

This is about more than just decluttering. It creates a space where you are surrounded by people who understand the trial and error of finding the perfect thing for your pet.

What's one sustainable swap you've made for your pet?

From the very beginning, we asked ourselves one question.

Where do pet owners already place their trust? The answer wasn't in an app, but in the people and places they already rely on throughout their pet's life.

We thought about the local Shelters, the responsible Breeders, the family Vets, and the specialist Retailers. These are the experts and communities people turn to. We realised that to build something meaningful, we had to work with them, not separately from them.

This shaped our entire approach. A truly supportive platform for pet owners couldn't be a closed-off island. It had to be integrated with the trusted ecosystem that already exists, creating embedded channels that deliver supply, trust, and engaged pet owners at every stage of ownership.

The other day I stubbed my toe on the puppy crate for the third time. It's been sitting in the hallway since he outgrew it months ago, along with a collection of too-small collars and a bag of fancy kibble he turned his nose up at.

It feels like just a bit of personal clutter, but when you zoom out, the picture is huge. An estimated 50 billion worth of pet products 'fall out of the economy' every year. These are items that are often barely used before they're discarded or tucked away.

That's a massive amount of money and potential waste. All those crates, beds, coats, and toys represent a giant, untapped resale opportunity. There's no single, organised place for these items to find a new home, moving from one pet owner who no longer needs them to another who does.
