A portrait of our beautiful girl Dolly 🦃🌿
Every day throughout October I've challenged myself to paint the portrait of a rescued individual and first up is Dolly! She was rescued from becoming a Christmas turkey three years ago and now resides at Willowfields Sanctuary & Rescue.
Rowan is a volunteer at the sanctuary, and he sent me her photo and wrote,
"Dolly is such an intelligent, curious little soul whose favourite thing is to cuddle up in the arms of her favourite volunteers. She can be quite sassy at times, chirping and standing in the way to demand attention. She loves sweetcorn, salad leaves and watermelon.
She does, unfortunately, struggle to bear her weight because of the way broad-breasted hens are bred, but we manage this with daily medication and leg & foot soaks and massages to alleviate that discomfort Despite this, she lives a happy and full life at Willowfields."
Thank you so much to everyone who sent in photos and stories. I don't know why I didn't realise this before I began, but man is it good for the soul to read them all. Makes you realise how much good there really is in the world.
I'm itching to paint cows and pigeons next, so please keep them coming and if the photo inspires something I feel I can offer my interpretation of, I'll have a go. (email [email protected]).
