Our beautiful Alice is still looking for her very own person. 🦄❤️

At just 15.1hh, and likely to finish around 15.2hh, she’s a really lovely stamp without being overly fine. She’s only 3 years old and has been a pleasure to have around.

Alice is good to do in all ways. She’s been in-hand showing, pops a small fence and hacks alone or in company. Obviously, she is still very green in the school — she only left racing in June — but she has such a lovely attitude and genuinely wants to learn and be someone’s best friend.

And, not to mention, she is absolutely gorgeous! 😍

Today she even babysat me while I was riding an older horse returning to work — exactly the sort of sensible, kind little mare she is.

I’m heading from East Yorkshire to Telford on Friday, so I can divert within reason if someone is interested in Alice and would like her delivered.

13 weeks ago, this mare walked through the gates at Big Amigo’s Sports Horses to be produced for sale.

5 weeks ago, I bought her myself. ❤️

And she will forever be my WHY.

My why for producing Thoroughbreds.
My why for giving them a chance.
My why for looking past condition, history and what they might look like when they first arrive.

Because condition is something you can change. It isn't a reflection of the horse underneath.

Sometimes you just have to look a little deeper, give them time, feed them well, put the work in and let them show you what they're capable of. 🦄

This mare is exactly why I love what I do.

From walking through the gates needing a complete restart, to becoming a horse I couldn't imagine not owning — she's a pretty special reminder that you should never judge a Thoroughbred by the condition they arrive in.

🥰🦄 JAZZ & ALICE AT OUR LOCAL SHOW TODAY! 🦄🥰

Two absolute unicorns who have made us incredibly proud today! ❤️

Both girls have only been out of the race yard for 6 days, so to take them to a show and have them behave as superbly as they did is pretty impressive! They received some fantastic comments from the judge and really showed themselves off.

Both are ex-racehorses, vice and injury free, and have taken everything asked of them in their stride.

🚛 Both travelled brilliantly, loaded well at both ends and stood happily by the trailer munching hay like seasoned professionals. 👌

And the judge’s comments were the icing on the cake…

✨ Alice – 3yo, 15.1hh, dark bay/black
The judge commented that she has all the makings of a top-level show hack type. For a 3yo who has only just come out of training, that’s a pretty exciting comment!
She went on to place champion 🏆

✨ Jazz – 6yo, 15.2hh, bay
The judge felt that the world is her oyster — and we couldn’t agree more!
She went on to place reserve champion 🏆

Both girls are now looking for their new homes where they can continue to progress and shine. 🏡❤️

💎 DIAMOND – A REAL GEM IN THE ROUGH! 💎

16.1hh | 5yo Thoroughbred Mare | ROR Eligible

Diamond is a seriously attractive young mare looking for her next person to continue her education and help her reach her full potential.

🏇 Raced 8 times as a 3 year old and 5 year old, given a year in-between to mature – but simply too slow for the job!
🏆 ROR eligible
🎓 Green in the school, but happily walks, trots and canters and is ready for someone to put the miles into her flatwork.
🌳 Hacks alone or in company and has a sensible head outside the arena.

Diamond last raced on 15th June and was then given some downtime to let her have a break before coming back into work and starting her next chapter.

Her most recent adventure was a trip to the beach, where she was exceptionally well behaved. She happily galloped along the beach, went into the sea, and was quite happy to stand around while people came over to give her a fuss. 🌊🐎

She has also recently been shod in front and is barefoot behind, behaving very well for the farrier.

Diamond has a lovely friendly nature and is a very attractive sort, with a huge white blaze, white socks and gorgeous little freckles of white throughout her coat. She certainly catches the eye! ✨

She would suit someone looking for a young, genuine Thoroughbred to bring on in the flatwork, with the aim of getting her out competing next year. She is still green and at the beginning of her retraining journey, so she is looking for someone who will enjoy producing her rather than expecting a finished horse.

A really exciting prospect for someone wanting to take a horse up the levels and put their own stamp on her. ❤️

Busy, busy day yesterday at Big Amigos Sports Horses! 🐴💙

The horses have all been keeping us on our toes...

Thor has been hard at work over the trot poles, building strength and balance. He's trying so hard and really coming on every day. 💪

Diamond and our new girls, Jazz & Alice (yes... somehow we've ended up with another Alice! 🤣), headed out hacking and were all absolutely foot perfect.

Reggie, our newest schooling livery, got out on the long reins as he starts his comeback after a year off. Looking forward to seeing how he progresses!

Thor is an 18hh, 11-year-old gelding by Black Sam Bellamy. He's green in the school but genuine and willing, hacks alone or in company, is lovely to handle and even fits in a trailer... just! 😂

🚨 Groom Wanted – Busy Retraining & Event Yard 🚨

Immediate start until 9th August, then again from 28th August for two weeks. Chance for further work.

Yes... we're readvertising. Unfortunately, reliability has been harder to find than a clean wheelbarrow on a busy yard, so we're looking for someone who actually wants to come to work and enjoys being around horses.

Your day-to-day will include:

- Mucking out to a good standard and at a reasonable pace (the horses would quite like clean beds before bedtime).
- Poo picking turnout paddocks.
- Keeping the yard tidy, including wielding the leaf blower.
- Making sure every horse has clean, fresh water. (They're surprisingly attached to drinking.)
- Picking out feet and letting us know if anything doesn't look or smell right.
- Turning horses in and out calmly, with kindness and common sense.
- Filling and weighing haynets.
- Cleaning up after yourself.
- Driving the gator without finding exciting new ways to park it.

We're looking for someone who:

- Is reliable and turns up when they're meant to.
- Has a good sense of humour and a strong work ethic.
- Treats horses with patience, kindness and respect.
- Isn't afraid of hard work or getting a bit muddy.
- Can work as part of a team without bringing unnecessary drama.

What you get in return:

- Lovely horses (most of them think they're Labradors).
- Riding opportunities for the right candidate.
- Wage to be discussed with the successful applicant, depending on experience.
- Unlimited donkey cuddles... if you can catch him.
