Reminder - we are currently recruiting cats with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) for an new clinical study.

This study is investigating a new medication that may help slow the progression of CKD in cats.

Cats may be eligible if they:
🐾 Have IRIS Stage II or III CKD
🐾 Are comfortable with vet visits and blood sampling (twelve in-clinic visits in 12 month period)
🐾 Can take a small tablet twice daily (your cat will receive either drug or placebo)
🐾 Are not currently receiving NSAIDs (eg. Metacam, Onsior) or steroid medications
🐾 Do not have diabetes, cancer, or heart failure
🐾 Are otherwise medically stable

If your cat has hyperthyroidism or another medical condition, they may still be eligible if stable on treatment.

The initial screening appointment involves your cat staying with us for part of the day and may include mild sedation for an ultrasound examination.

All study-related appointments are provided free of charge, including consultations, blood and urine testing and blood pressure monitoring.

We are also happy to accept referrals or new patients for study consideration.

If you're interested in taking part, please register your interest by calling us 01403 331800 or sending an email.

We will contact you once we reached the required number of registrations.

Did you know that cats get sunburned too? ☀️
White cats and those with pink skin or thin fur lack protective melanin, making them highly susceptible to sun damage. If your cat’s skin suffers repeated sun exposure, they may develop a common type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

If your cat loves to sunbathe, you can purchase vet-approved pet suncream (never use human suncream!) to keep them protected! ☀️

We choose to vaccinate with Purevax as they are fully adjuvant free, which decreases the instances of vaccine reactions. They are also smaller doses, so less to inject, meaning less stress for your cat.

Kittens need a vaccine course when they are young, and then a booster a year after that course. From then, a vaccination protocol should be discussed with your vet to make sure your cat has the right level of protection.

Today, 9th June, our vet Joanna was honoured to be invited to the Cats Protection Summer Reception at the House of Commons, following her recognition as the Cats Protection Vet of the Year 2025.

Cats Protection is the UK's leading cat welfare charity, and as many of you know, cat welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Graylands Cat Clinic. The reception was a wonderful opportunity to meet, connect, and exchange ideas with others who share a passion for improving the lives of cats across the UK.

Thank you to Cats Protection for the invitation and for their continued dedication to feline welfare. It was a privilege to be part of such an inspiring event.

We will let our mini tigers believe they are ferocious 🫶

And they do truly share a lot of the same behaviours such as hunting, scent marking, grooming and stalking! 🐅

✨Meet the practice pets✨
Meet Bob (also known as Bobert) the fluffy member of practice Management. Bob runs nurse Hazel’s household with loud, opinionated commentary and a strict supervisory style. His favourite luxuries in life are Webbox sticks, cream, and snuggles on Hazel’s lap. Bob’s ideal day consists of an uninterrupted nap-a-thon, carefully monitoring everyone’s activities, and occasionally delivering a surprise “love” bite. His life motto? Bite someone just do it, no matter the reason.

Miss Poppy is stunning in her new fur boots ✨ Poppy came in for a lion cut, a lion cut is a grooming style where most of a cat’s body fur is clipped short, while fur is left around the head, lower legs, and tip of the tail, giving a "lion-like" appearance.

Although it can look striking, it’s sometimes recommended for welfare reasons, such as severe matting, mobility problems, poor self-grooming, or hygiene concerns. For some cats, a lion cut can improve comfort, cleanliness, and quality of life 🦁
