🐾❤️ THIS IS WHAT TEAMWORK AND CONSISTENCY CAN ACHIEVE! ❤️🐾

Sometimes the biggest achievements are those quiet, peaceful moments. 🥰

I’ve been working with this lovely boy and his caregiver to help create a calm, safe and peaceful environment where he can happily share his home with two new kittens. 🐶🐱🐱

When we first started, he was incredibly excited around the kittens and was constantly trying to herd them. His excitement made it difficult for everyone to relax and share the same space peacefully.

Our goal wasn’t simply to stop the herding behaviour, but to help him learn how to manage his excitement, feel calmer around the kittens and build positive associations so they could all enjoy living together.

It’s taken time, patience, consistency and a lot of hard work!

And then today, I received these beautiful photos! ❤️

These are the moments that make my job so rewarding.

🌟 A MASSIVE well done to his caregiver, who has worked incredibly hard, followed the training plan I put together and, most importantly, continued putting everything into practice between our sessions.

Behaviour change doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s the work that happens between sessions that can make such a difference.

I’m so proud of the progress they’ve made, and I’m really looking forward to our next session to continue building on these fantastic foundations.

It’s not just about training a dog. It’s about understanding behaviour, supporting everyone involved and creating a home where all can feel safe and comfortable. ❤️

I’m looking at potentially introducing a new Reactive & Anxious Dog Class in Barns Green and would love to see if there’s enough interest! 🐶

📍 Location: Barns Green, West Sussex
📅 Day: Saturday mornings

These classes would be designed to support dogs who find other dogs, people or certain situations challenging.

We would focus on:

🐾 Building confidence
🐾 Understanding your dog’s reactions
🐾 Focus and engagement
🐾 Managing reactions around other dogs
🐾 Loose lead walking
🐾 Helping dogs feel calmer and more comfortable in different environments

Classes would be kept small, with a supportive, understanding environment where dogs can learn at their own pace.

🐴 Just a random thought about animal welfare…

Today, while out driving, I passed two horses being ridden, and it sparked a question in my mind.

Who decides how much weight an individual horse can comfortably carry?

Is it based on their size? Their breed? Their fitness? Their age? Or is there more to consider?

And who ultimately makes that decision?

It got me thinking about how we assess what is appropriate for the animals in our care, particularly when every animal is an individual.

I’m not sharing this because I have an opinion to put forward. It’s simply something that crossed my mind, and I thought it might make an interesting discussion.

💬 I’d genuinely love to hear people’s thoughts, particularly from those with experience of horses.

How is this decided in practice?

The aim is not to force dogs to “cope” or get closer than they are comfortable with. Instead, we work at each dog’s individual pace, helping them feel safer, build confidence and develop useful skills for real-life situations. 🐶💛

We’ll work on things such as:

✨ Building focus and engagement with you
✨ Understanding and working at your dog’s safe distance
✨ Calm movement around other dogs
✨ Loose-lead walking and handling skills
✨ Helping your dog disengage from triggers
✨ Confidence building
✨ Practical strategies for walks and everyday life
✨ Helping you understand your dog’s body language and stress signals

Classes are kept supportive and practical, with plenty of space between dogs. Each dog will be worked with at a level they can comfortably manage — there is no expectation for dogs to greet or interact with each other.

I was so excited when my School of Canine Science hoodie arrived! I know how precious these hoodies are, and I feel incredibly honoured to have received one. 🐾💛

My favourite SoCS course has been The Behaviour Bible. I loved how deeply it explored behaviour and helped me look beyond what a dog is doing to consider the emotions, learning history, environment and individual dog behind it.

It has strengthened the way I assess behaviour and encouraged me to keep looking at the whole dog not simply the behaviour we can see.

The course has been a valuable part of my continued learning as a canine behaviour practitioner, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to develop a deeper understanding of dogs.

Thank you, School of Canine Science, for creating such an informative and thought-provoking course and for my wonderful hoodie! 💛
