This is lovely Pickle 😍
We recently treated Pickle after she chewed a battery, resulting in chemical burns to the inside of her mouth ‼️
Unfortunately, batteries can cause significant damage if chewed, and pose a much more serious risk if swallowed. Depending on the type of battery, they can cause severe chemical burns to the mouth, oesophagus and gastrointestinal tract, with potentially life-threatening consequences 💔
Pickle’s case is an important reminder that batteries should always be kept securely out of reach of pets: particularly small button and coin batteries, which can be easily picked up and swallowed by curious puppies 🪫
If you suspect your pet has chewed or swallowed a battery, please contact your veterinary practice or an emergency veterinary service immediately, even if they initially appear well. Prompt veterinary assessment and treatment can be critical.
🔋 Please check your home today and make sure all batteries are stored safely and disposed of securely.
Thankfully Pickle’s owners realised what had happened and she is receiving the care she needs, and we hope sharing her story helps prevent another pet from being affected 🐾
