Fred, Flo, and Winnie certainly know how to make some noise as seen in the first part of the video! 🤣🤦‍♀️
The second part is after just one session of working with these dogs and I’m so impressed with how they have adapted. We still have some work to do, but the change so far is amazing 🥰🐶

These are the words I hear often and it’s hard for owners when their dog ignores their recall amidst distraction ☺️😳
We will be working on building in distractions as we progress through our recall journey 👌😃

We had an absolute blast at our very first class this week. Every single pup (and their humans!) did an incredible job 👌😀
Here is a quick recap of the foundational skills we covered to get everyone started on the right paw:

Marker Words: Learning how to use a clear, consistent word (like "Yes!") to instantly pinpoint the exact moment our puppy gets something right 🤩

Release Cues: Practicing how to tell our pups when a behaviour is officially finished (using cues like "Okay" or "Free") so they know they can move 🤩

Safe Socialisation: Discussing the golden rules of exposing our puppies to new sights, sounds, and experiences safely and positively during their crucial developmental window 🤩

The Place Cue: Introducing a dedicated mat or bed as a calm zone to help puppies learn how to settle and relax on cue.
We are so excited to watch this wonderful group grow, learn, and build amazing bonds with their families over the coming weeks 🤩

Meet Fred, Flo, and Winnie 🐶🥰
I’ve been called in to help out with excessive barking and tension/fighting between this trio. Whilst barking to alert is a very natural behaviour and one that we don’t want to stop, we need to be able to ‘dial it down’ when it’s required 👌. The owner has reported that all three dogs trigger each other, which is also very common. In the video you will see the tension barking from behind the gate and once released an altercation between the dogs.
Household dynamics with multiple dogs can be complex—especially when previous routines, seasons, or relationships shift.
We're going to be working on identifying the triggers behind the reactivity and helping restore peace and clear communication in the household. Stay tuned for updates on their progress 😊🐾

Meet lovely Benny! 🐾
Benny’s owner reached out for help because she was struggling with his reactivity towards "everything," especially other dogs 😔.
In this session, we worked on:
Desensitisation: Helping Benny feel more comfortable around his triggers.
Marking and Rewarding: Using a marker and a treat to reinforce him when he chooses to look away from what is triggering him.

Understanding the Marking and Rewarding Process
The marking and rewarding process is a powerful positive reinforcement technique used to help reactive dogs change how they feel about their triggers.
The Trigger Appears: The dog notices a potential trigger in their environment (like another dog walking by).
The Look-Away: Instead of reacting, the dog naturally looks away or in Benny’s case to make eye contact with me.
The "Mark": The moment the Benny looks at me, I use a verbal marker (like "Yes!" or a clicker) to pinpoint the exact correct behavior.
The Reward: The marker is immediately followed by a high-value treat to reinforce the positive choice and build a new, calm association.
Over time, this teaches Benny that looking away and looking at his handler from a trigger brings good things, reducing anxiety and reactivity 👌🤩

Look at that incredible focus and progress. Well done Benny 🥰🐶

Proofing a stay is all about building reliability around real-life distractions. In this clip, our handlers step completely out of sight while another dog and handler team walks right past the stay mats!
Maintaining focus and impulse control while your human is hidden and another dog is moving nearby is no easy feat, but our class handled it brilliantly 👌😀
