We are the largest animal welfare charity in the North West. We rehome over 1800 domestic animals each year and work with local councils to take in stray dogs. We beleive that every animal deserves a second chance, which is why we have a non destruct policy at our charity. At any onetime we have 120 dogs, 100 cats and 20 rabbits & guinea pigs -please vist our lovely residents looking for their for

We have many fundraising events and Open Days each year and regularly visit schools and communities to educate on animal welfare. It costs our charity £1000 a day to keep the rescue open - so every donation really does make a difference. CH8 9BD

IMPORTANT WAGGFEST UPDATE 🐾

Following recent reports of parvovirus cases in the local area, we have made the difficult decision to postpone WaggFest until Saturday 24th October.

As an animal rescue, the health and welfare of animals will always be our absolute priority. After careful consideration, we feel that postponing the event is the safest and most responsible decision at this time.

We completely understand that this news may be disappointing and we are incredibly grateful for your understanding, patience and continued support. ❤️🐶

Annual General Meeting – New Date

Following the recent announcement regarding NCAR’s temporary closure for the next week, we have made the decision to postpone our Annual General Meeting.

The AGM will now take place on:

📅 Monday 12th October 2026
🕐 1:00pm
📍 Doris’s Bunker, NCAR, CH89BD

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the change and thank everyone for their understanding.

Important Notice

We have been made aware of cases of parvovirus in the local area, including Holywell, Flint and Mostyn.

We do not want to worry anyone or raise an alarm this is purely not to escalate the situation and as a precautionary measure.

A litter of puppies recently came into our rescue from the Mostyn area and have since become unwell. We have carried out tests for several viruses and are currently awaiting the results. We have completely isolated the puppies and carrying out barrier nursing to ensure no further dogs become poorly.

As a precaution, we have made the decision to close the rescue for the next week from Saturday 5th September. This is to protect the animals in our care and reduce the risk of any potential infection spreading.

We would also like to remind all dog owners to please make sure your dogs are vaccinated and that their vaccinations are up to date. If you are unsure, please speak to your vet for advice.

Please do not visit the rescue while we are closed, the cafe will be closed and unfortunately our volunteers will not be able to visit for the next week.

The health and welfare of our animals is our priority, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding and support. We will provide an update when we have more information.

Maes Gwyn Boarding Kennels will remain open as normal as all dogs coming into boarding must be fully vaccinated and a very strict barrier measures are being adopted, if you have any concerns please contact the boarding kennels on 01745 560361.

Pre booked veterinary appointments will continue as normal and our veterinary team will be in touch with further information.

Delivery access will be available during this period
