Some new research 📚 to read about gastric ulcer treatment

In a recent pilot study, researchers evaluated the potassium-competitive acid blocker vonoprazan as a potential new treatment for EGUS.⁣
⁣
Vonoprazan has a faster onset of action than omeprazole because it doesn’t require activation by acid. It is not affected by food or dependent on meal timing, and it provides a more consistent and longer acid suppression than omeprazole.⁣
⁣
The study showed that treated horses had a consistently longer duration of gastric pH > 4 compared to pretreatment, which is the standard to determine ulcer healing.⁣

Lil is a seasoned pro, but River has never ever been clipped or experienced the clippers before! 🌟

I’ve done a video that I’ll share later with my steps and top tips to help making clipping for the first time stress free for all and the best experience 😀

Everyone who drives on the roads needs to watch this!

Horses are unpredictable-we are allowed on the roads and we use them as little as possible!!

But you have to drive safely around us.

10 yes 10mph past if you are moving. The safest option is stop pull over and wait and let the horses pass you. I turn around if needed

2 metres of space-I shouldn’t be able to hit your car with my flicky stick

YOUR loved one may have been on that horse you rushed past. Think and take care.

🔦 Class 4 Laser

🥽This is one of my most used pieces of kit both because of the wide range of conditions I can use it for and how well it works. It is used for a wide range of therapeutic and surgical purposes.
It is non invasive and due to being Class 4, very powerful, so treatment times are not prolonged.

🧐This week alone I have treated hock arthritis, lymphangitis, cellulitis, wounds, ligament sprains, tendon sprains and removed melanomas!

🐛Equine Worming🐛
🍂Autumn Testing being done now

As an Equine Vet I am always promoting less use of equine worming treatments and the move to analyse dung samples to target treat the horses that need it.

📖We know that 20% of our equine population carry 80% of the worms, and those are the horses that need treating. The rest of the horse population has an innate immunity to the worms and if this is protected they can help in the battle against resistance. There is already resistance to all the classes of drugs we use and we need to act fast to reduce the speed at which this is occurring. If we don't act fast we will have no treatments to help those vulnerable equines in our population, foals and youngsters and old horses with concomitant disease.

Land Management
Poo pick your fields at least once a day
Ensure your land isn't overgrazed
Keep your muck heap away from grazing land and water sources
Rest and rotate grazing and ideally co graze with ruminants which ingest worms but stop the life cycle so reduce pasture contamination

Worm Egg Counts should be done 4x a year instead of routinely reaching for the worming drugs.

How to collect a sample
-pick a few pinches from each pile of dung in your horses stable or field. I need 4g (so the amount in one dung ball is plenty!)
-place the mixed dung into a glove or plastic bag and label clearly with the date and horse name
-Write down when the horse was last treated and what with
-Send or drop off the sample

🔬You will get a personalised result and programme for your horse(es) and yard

The whole process is carried out by an experienced equine vet, from processing to analysis. Not many locally can claim this and I've seen many many issues from this.
