My first day volunteering at the dog refuge yesterday… and I absolutely loved it. 🥹❤️ Although, it’s definitely a mix of emotions.
Before we can start interacting with the rescue dogs, there are a few modules to complete, followed by a practical induction on safely walking the ‘boarding’ dogs. As the refuge also has a kennel, volunteers begin by walking the boarding dogs for a couple of sessions before moving on to the rescues.
Yesterday, I took a gorgeous boarding dog for a little walk around the gardens and some playtime in one of the yards. 🐶🌿 (No photos are allowed of the boarding dogs.)
Afterwards, I went to sit with Milly — one of the rescue dogs who completely stole my heart on my very first visit. 🥹 Along with a few others, she’s one I just couldn’t stop thinking about.
I’m only at the beginning of my volunteering journey, but being able to spend time with these dogs, get to know them and hopefully give them a little love, comfort and trust along the way feels so special. ❤️
And then to finish my session, I joined some of the other volunteers for ‘cake & tea time’… which I absolutely LOVED! 🫖🍰
There’s something pretty special about a group of people coming together because they all care about the same thing ✨ I’d better get my chef’s hat on and whip something up for next week!
