What began as a small weekly social Touch Rugby League session has grown into a thriving community movement, culminating in a hugely successful charity tournament that brought together players, volunteers, sponsors and supporters from across the region.

We always want to set our dogs up for success, and controlling contamination is a huge part of that.

If we don’t keep the target odour contained, we can unintentionally create additional scent where we don’t want it. This can cause confusion for the dog and make the search unnecessarily difficult.

Our job is to make the picture as clear as possible for the dog: find the target odour → indicate it → get rewarded. 🎯

Good scent work isn’t just about hiding the odour, it’s about understanding how we handle, contain and place it.

Set the dog up for success, avoid confusion, and make sure we reward the right odour.

Watching handlers step outside their comfort zone and learn new skills is one of the best parts of our Detective Course.

As the challenges get tougher, so does their understanding of scent work and they’re discovering just how incredible their dogs’ noses really are.

Every search builds confidence, strengthens the partnership, and reminds us that our dogs are capable of far more than we often give them credit for.

Learning, problem solving, and letting the dogs do what they do best. That’s what it’s all about.
