Today I saw a woman walking a dog who was clearly nervous, anxious or reactive.

She was keeping her distance, sitting calmly with her dog and doing everything she could to manage their space.

As we got closer, I could see her body language change.

I recalled the dog I was walking, got him sitting beside me and worked out which way I could go to give her more space.

Then another dog appeared from the other direction.

I could see her worry immediately. She turned around and I could almost feel the stress.

I've been there.

So I called over and asked if she'd find it helpful if I went another way and gave her more space.

She said yes.

So I did.

I also told her she was doing an amazing job and that I walk nervous dogs too, so I completely understood.

And it really highlighted something for me:

People don't always notice.

A dog being on a lead doesn't mean they want to meet your dog.

Someone changing direction isn't being rude.

Sometimes they're advocating for their dog.

Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is simply notice what's happening around you and give someone the space they're clearly asking for.

You don't need to know their story.

Just pay attention.

That little bit of awareness can make a HUGE difference to someone else's walk. 🐾

Here at Welcome Little Paws Ickleford, we thought you might like to see what happens when you leave your little doggy with us. We encourage fun and play indoors and outdoors with our brand new specialist pet lawn where our little doggies love to play.
We love our little guests and enjoy having them. We only have small and toy dogs and only a few at a time. They are treated as part of the family and are never left alone. They enjoy nice walks in the local countryside, enrichment toys and games, treats for good behaviour and as many cuddles as they want on the sofa. They are free to sleep wherever they are happiest.
We are fully licensed by Hertfordshire council ANI/19905, fully insured and pet first aid trained.
So if your little (sorry we only take small and toy dogs)doggy is fully vaccinated, neutered, over 12 months and flee and worm treated, why not contact us to arrange a free meet and greet and find out more.

At Welcome Little Paws your little doggy is always our priority. *We do not walk our doggies in temperatures over 24 degrees in the day.
*We always test pavement in our bare feet if it is too hot for us it is certainly too hot for little paws.
*Our walks are mainly on grass and in shaded areas during hot spells and we walk early morning and evening. If it is too hot then no walks and comfort breaks are restricted to garden under supervision and never left outside even in shaded area. *Fresh water changed regularly throughout day with ice cubes to keep chilled.
*As part of our licence conditions we always carry water and first aid kits on every walk.
*We always have fans in the house to keep the air moving and for your pet’s comfort with cool tiled flooring for keeping cool.
*We are first aid trained and always on alert for heat stroke

What a lovely walk today with this gorgeous girl, past Gerry’s hole in Ickleford. A nice paddle in the river and watched the baby ducks in awe!
