Healthy fats are essential for dogs and especially puppies as they provide energy, overall Health, brain development and cognitive function, skin, coat and reduce inflammation and IBS. Dogs need a minimum of 5.5% fat in their diet for adult basic maintenance and puppies 8.5%.
The most common source of getting in the healthy fats is Fish 🐟
✔️Salmon, mackerel, sardines,are excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids
✔️Fish oil is a great alternative
✔️Tinned fish ( look for the lower sodium content) and avoid oil unless it’s olive oil
✔️ dried fish, still contains all the nutrients as fresh fish, can come chewy or a crunchy treat/chew and sprats that can be used as a dinner topper or daily healthy snack
Other options
✔️ Seeds - Chia, Flaxseed, pumpkin, sunflower and H**p seeds ( Grounded in to powder is better )
✔️ Natural Greek Yogurt ( Full fat and the less ingredients added the better)
✔️Whole eggs
✔️ plant oils
✔️Avocado ( The flesh of the avocado, same as what we eat)
try mixing these up to get a balance of Omega -3 and Omega-6
