💛 A little moment of bravery for Thea 💛

Thea recently stayed with us under the care of our Neurology Specialist, Nick, after being referred for neck pain. An MRI showed a disc extrusion in her neck, and she went on to have surgery to help treat it.

Throughout her time with us, she was calm, gentle and incredibly trusting, taking everything in her stride.

Recovering from this kind of surgery takes time, patience and a lot of dedicated nursing care, and Thea built a lovely bond with the team looking after her.

Our Registered Veterinary Nurse Amy and Patient Care Assistant Emma wanted to recognise just how well she coped, and gave her a small bravery award as a way of marking her sweet and resilient nature.

She really was a joy to look after, especially as she enjoyed a cuddle just as much as her team did.

Wishing you a smooth recovery, Thea 🐾✨

This Diabetes Awareness Week, we are sharing Ripley’s story and the impact diabetes can have on our patients.

For some dogs, diabetes can lead to cataracts developing, gradually affecting their vision. Ripley came to us with significant changes to his sight caused by cataracts in both eyes.

After careful assessment, he underwent delicate cataract surgery with our Ophthalmology Specialist Agata and the theatre team. The aim was simple but life changing, to restore his sight and help him get back to being himself again.

And then comes the moment that says it all… Ripley seeing his family clearly again, tail going non stop, full of excitement and relief.

It is a powerful reminder of the wider impact diabetes can have, and how the right support and teamwork can make such a difference.

We are so grateful to his owners for their trust, and incredibly proud of the team who made this possible.

The video includes a few brief surgical clips and a simple before and after of his eyes.

Hannah, RVN – Nurse Team Leader (Education)

Hannah’s role is busy and varied, with no two days the same. She remains hands-on with patients while leading and supporting our student nurses through their training.

As a Training Practice, Hannah values the supportive environment across the nursing team, where ideas are listened to and everyone plays a key role in advocating for patients. She particularly enjoys canine and feline behaviour, ensuring each patient receives care tailored to their individual needs.

Hannah also loves watching students grow in confidence and develop into skilled nurses within the team. Collaboration is a big part of what she values most, with different disciplines coming together to achieve the best outcomes for every case.

Outside of work, Hannah has a busy home life with her husband, three children, and two rehomed dogs who keep everyone on their toes.

❤️🐾 Thank You to Our Incredible Donor Dogs & Owners 🐾❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our recent Pet Blood Bank UK collection day on 16 May. Together, you helped collect 9 units of blood, which will go on to support pets in need of lifesaving treatment.

We’re always so grateful to the dogs and their owners who give their time to help others — it truly makes a difference to the patients we care for every day.

Thank you again to everyone who took part — we couldn’t do it without you. 💉🐶❤️

It’s always so rewarding to hear how patients are doing once they’re back home 🧡

Pepper joined us as an emergency earlier this year, and understandably his family were going through a very worrying time. From the moment he arrived, our team, and especially Julien, focused on making sure they felt supported, informed and reassured every step of the way.

His owner shared such kind words about their experience, highlighting not only the care Pepper received, but also the warmth and kindness of our reception team at every interaction.

We’re so pleased to hear that Pepper is now back to his normal self – eating well, gaining weight, and enjoying life again (even if he’s still missing a little bit of fluff! 😅).

Thank you for trusting us with his care, and for taking the time to share your experience.

Meet Lulu, a gorgeous 2‑year‑old Ragdoll, who came to us feeling very unwell after suddenly stopping eating and repeatedly vomiting.

When Lulu arrived, she was clearly poorly and needed urgent care. Blood tests showed her kidneys were really struggling. Specialist scans showed that she had an infection in both kidneys (called pyelonephritis), this infection was so bad in her right kidney that the tube that carries urine to the bladder (ureter) had become blocked with infected material. A sample taken directly from this right kidney confirmed the presence of bacteria and pus.

Lulu was started on antibiotics, fluids, pain relief and supportive care; initially she showed really encouraging improvements. She was brighter, more comfortable, and her kidney values began to improve. However, she would not eat any food, thus a temporary feeding tube was placed to give her the nutrition she needed to heal.

But recovery isn’t always a straight line.

Despite initial progress, Lulu developed repeated fevers and then suddenly started to show signs of sepsis. We suspected that her right kidney was the source of this sepsis. After careful discussions between the veterinary team and Lulu’s family, everyone agreed that her best chance of recovery was to surgically remove her right kidney.

The surgery went smoothly, and the difference afterwards was remarkable. Within 24 hours she was brighter, comfortable, and started to eat by herself. She went home just a few days later, happy and alert, with her remaining kidney doing a fantastic job on its own

We’re so proud of Lulu — and grateful to her family for trusting us with her care 💙
