‼️𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀‼️
Please take extra care when walking your dogs…
Grass seeds are sharp and barbed and can tract quite far!… including in between toes, up noses and in ears! Sometimes the vet is able to remove consciously with forceps but as it can be uncomfortable a sedation is often required.
Some signs of a grass seed injury include: head shaking/scratching, sneezing/irritation, licking feet/swelling between toes…
To reduce the risk of your dog picking up a grass seed injury there are a few things you can do:
🌾Avoid areas with long, dry grass
🌾Walk on playing fields (where allowed) as these are mowed, preventing grasses seeding
🌾Check your dogs after every walk- especially in between toes!
🌾Have long haired dogs groomed shorter than normal, particularly around feet and ears
🌾Use a soft brush to groom after a walk. Dogs love this and it’s a great time if they are usually a bit wriggly!
