🌾GRASS SEEDS🌾
It's that time of year again, grass seed season!
These pesky seeds can easily get embedded within your pets skin, and their pointed end means they can also easily migrate further into their body. They are most commonly found in ears, paws and eyes, but can embed within any part of the body.
The pictured grass seed was removed from a dog's ear last week, after she was brought her in for shaking her head and yelping.
Sometimes our vets can remove grass seeds consciously, but other times the patient needs sedating to locate the seed(s) and remove them safely.
Key signs to look out for are:
🔶 Excessive head shaking/ rubbing/ head tilt
🔶 Squinting/ weeping/ closed eye
🔶 Limping/ licking or chewing paws
🔶 Sneezing fits/ nasal discharge
🔶 Non-healing lump/ wound that may be weeping
If your pet has any of the above symptoms, or you are concerned they have a grass seed, please call us on 01223 232111.
