☀️ Heatwave Alert – Keep Your Horse Cool & Comfortable 🐴💧

With temperatures soaring, it’s important to help your horse stay safe during the heatwave.
Here are our top tips:

💦 Provide constant access to fresh, clean water – Check buckets and troughs regularly, as horses will drink much more in hot weather.

🌳 Offer shade – Whether in the field or stable, ensure your horse has somewhere to escape the direct sun.

🌅 Adjust exercise times – Ride early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler, and reduce intensity where needed.

🚿 Cool them down properly – Hose with cool water after exercise or if they’re overheating, repeating until they are cool.

🧂 Replace lost electrolytes – Horses sweating heavily may benefit from electrolyte supplementation. Speak to us if you’re unsure what’s suitable.

🌾 Monitor grazing and flies – Heat can increase fly activity, so use appropriate fly protection and keep an eye on pasture conditions.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat stress:
> Excessive sweating (or no sweating despite being hot)
> Rapid breathing
> Lethargy/ weakness
> High temperature
> Reluctance to move.

If you’re concerned, contact your vet immediately.

We’re here to help keep your horse healthy and happy throughout the hot weather. If you have any concerns or would like advice, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the CM Equine Vets team.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your horses a little extra care this week. ❤️🐴

🐴 🪱Worming & Worm Egg Counts:
Are You Staying One Step Ahead? 🪱🐴

With the warm temperatures and wet conditions we’ve been experiencing recently, parasite larvae can thrive on pasture, increasing the risk of horses picking up a worm burden. This makes now an ideal time to review your horse’s worm control plan.

🌱 Why are Worm Egg Counts (WEC) so important?

Regular worm egg counts help identify whether your horse actually needs worming, allowing for a targeted approach rather than routine treatment. This not only protects your horse’s health but also helps reduce the growing problem of wormer resistance.

A high worm burden can lead to:
❗ Weight loss
❗ Poor coat condition
❗ Reduced performance
❗ Colic and digestive upset
❗ General ill health

✅ Our top tips for parasite control this grazing season:
🔹 Perform regular worm egg counts
( We offer in-house WEC)
🔹 Only worm when necessary based on results and risk assessment
🔹 Remove droppings from paddocks at least twice weekly
🔹Avoid overgrazing and overcrowding fields
🔹 Rotate grazing where possible
🔹 Ensure all horses on the yard follow a sensible parasite control programme

Remember, effective parasite control isn’t just about reaching for a wormer—it’s about using the right treatment at the right time.

📞 If you’re unsure when your horse last had a worm egg count or would like advice on creating a tailored parasite control plan, get in touch with CM Equine Vets.
CM Equine offer in house WEC’s 🪱 to support keeping your horses healthy, happy and protected throughout the grazing season.

🐴 Is your horse not performing as expected? 🐴

A decline in PERFORMANCE can be caused by a wide range of underlying issues, many of which are not immediately obvious.
From subtle lameness and musculoskeletal discomfort to respiratory, cardiac, or behavioural concerns, identifying the root cause is key to getting your horse back on track.

At CM Equine Vets, our comprehensive Poor Performance Examinations are designed to investigate the factors that may be limiting your horse's potential. We take a thorough, tailored approach to assess each case and develop a plan that supports both horse and rider goals.

If you've noticed changes in your horse's way of going, reluctance to work, reduced stamina, or simply feel they're not performing at their usual level, we're here to help.

📞 Contact 01628 950700 and one of our team will be happy to discuss your concerns or book an examination.

🐴Equine Flu-Is Your Horse Protected?🐴

Equine Influenza (Equine Flu) is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can spread rapidly between horses — even those with limited contact with others.

Signs to watch for include:
✔️ High temperature
✔️ Coughing
✔️ Nasal discharge
✔️ Lethargy
✔️ Loss of appetite

With an increase in confirmed cases, we are recommending 6-monthly Equine Flu vaccinations for horses most at risk, including those that compete regularly.

Regular vaccination not only helps protect your horse but also reduces the risk of outbreaks within the wider equine community.

We particularly recommend discussing 6-monthly vaccinations if your horse:

🔹 Competes regularly
🔹 Is elderly, young, or clinically vulnerable

📞 Call 01628 950700 to book a vaccination appointment or to discuss your horse’s preventative healthcare plan with our team.

Fast Fibre Product Recall Update

To ensure that customers do not get any affected feed we are going to include batch no 15/01/26 best before date 05/05/26 of Allen & Page Fast Fibre, for additional reassurance. This is in addition to batch no 14/01/26 with a best before date of 04/05/26.

We are recalling these batches of Fast Fibre because of an ingredient issue which has led to reports of a darker colour feed together with a sticky consistency. While we conduct further tests, we have decided to recall these batches only for the safety of your equines despite not all bags being affected.

Please be reassured that these Fast Fibre batches do not have any NOPS issues, are not a doping/clean sport issue and are not toxic in any way.

We are advising customers NOT to feed Fast Fibre from these batches, as it may be out of specification and also for your additional reassurance. Customers should dispose of their bags only from these batches:
• 14/01/26 with a best before date of 04/05/26
• 15/01/26 with a best before date of 05/05/26

If you have tipped your bag into your feed bin and have not retained the label, and your bag(s) were purchased after the 16/01/26, please ensure you check the consistency and colour of your feed when soaked and if you have any concerns please do not feed.

If you have fed your horse and suspect that the Fast Fibre was from either of the above batches, and you have any concerns please contact us directly.
No other Allen & Page products or other batches of Fast Fibre are affected. If you are unsure if you have the affected batch, if you purchased your Fast Fibre before 16/01/26 your Fast Fibre is unaffected and good to feed.

We communicated this information to all stockists and customers at the earliest possible opportunity. We recognise that this may cause inconvenience and concern for horse owners, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of those affected.

As always for further information or advice, please contact Allen & Page:
