Look at the gorgeous Eric enjoying his laser session with our in-house physiotherapist Ashleigh this week.

Eric had spine surgery with our neurologist Jocelyn in May, and has been having regular appointments with our rehab team to support his recovery.

All our post-operative rehabilitation plans are tailored to each patients’ specific requirements. For Eric, his has involved hydrotherapy, manual physiotherapy and laser therapy.

🌟What is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain.

This is one of those posts we never like having to make... but we really need your help 💔

Our blood stocks are currently critically low, and we're concerned about the number of appointments booked over the coming weeks 😓

Summer is always a difficult time, with holidays and busy schedules meaning fewer dogs come forward to donate. Unfortunately, emergencies and illnesses don't stop for summer 🚨

Right now, we urgently need more lifesavers to come forward 🩸

If you've ever thought about registering your dog to become a blood donor... this is your sign. We need amazing people who can spare just an hour of their day to help save lives ❤️

To be a lifesaver, your dog must be:
🎂 between 1 and 8 years old
⚖️ weigh over 25kg
🐶 fit, healthy, and confident
Register at www.petbloodbankuk.org/welcome

Please consider booking an appointment at a donation session near you soon. We really need you and your wonderful dog to come along and make a lifesaving difference 🙏

If you're already booked in, please keep your appointment if at all possible. We know the warm weather can be a concern, but we have measures in place to keep donor dogs cool, comfortable, and safe throughout their visit!

Please share this post with anyone you know who might be able to help. Thank you so much ❤️

Meet Buck 💙
Buck, a handsome 7-year-old Cocker Spaniel, came to our Neurology service after his owner noticed several mysterious wet spots around the house. Eventually, she caught him in the act — fully awake, calmly looking at her while urinating on the carpet. These episodes continued over several months, leaving both Buck and his family confused and concerned.
Although Buck had recently welcomed a new dog brother into the home, he showed no signs of marking behaviour. In fact, he seemed embarrassed and upset whenever the accidents happened.
Buck’s physical and neurological exams were completely normal, and advanced imaging (MRI of the brain and spine) showed no signs of injury, infection or tumour. While the episodes appeared behavioural at first, we became concerned they could actually represent an unusual form of epilepsy.
As the episodes continued, Buck was started on the anti-seizure medication levetiracetam — and the results were remarkable. Since beginning treatment, he has had only one episode in the past 12 months!
Today, Buck is back to being his happy, handsome, snuggly self, and his medication continues to keep him feeling his best.

Meet Teddy. ❤️

On Boxing Day, Teddy was sadly hit by a car and suffered a complex pelvic fracture involving the hip socket — far from a straightforward injury.

At just 6 months old, Teddy was referred to our Orthopaedic Specialist, David Sajik, who surgically repaired the fracture using a metal plate.

After spending three nights away from his devoted family, Teddy was comfortable enough to return home and continue his recovery.

Fast forward six months, and Teddy’s owners have sent us this wonderful video showing just how far he has come. We absolutely love receiving updates from our patients, and it’s incredible to see Teddy running around on all four legs as if nothing ever happened!

A huge thank you to Teddy’s family for sharing this special update with us. 🐾

🩸 World Blood Donor Day 🩸

Today, we're sharing the story of one of our patients whose life was helped by a blood donation collected through Pet Blood Bank UK

Pet Blood Bank runs donation sessions at Hamilton Specialist Referrals every 6 weeks, as well as at locations across the country. These donations provide the vital blood products veterinary teams rely on to save lives every day.

Meet the beautiful Eryn ❤️

In April, this sweet girl attended her routine six-month health check with her vet. During the examination, her vet noticed that Eryn's gums were very pale. Healthy dog gums should be pink, so this raised immediate concern. A blood test revealed Eryn's PCV (packed cell volume) was just 10%, compared to the normal range of 37–55%.

Eryn was referred to HSR for further investigation, where our Internal Medicine specialist, Dr Amanda Paul, diagnosed her with non-associative IMHA (Immune-Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia) — a condition in which the immune system mistakenly destroys the body's own red blood cells, resulting in severe anaemia.

Eryn spent three nights in our hospital, receiving round-the-clock care, monitoring, and treatment from our dedicated team. Alongside this support, she received 200ml of donated blood.

While Eryn is not completely out of the woods yet, we are pleased to report that at her recheck appointment this week she was bright, bouncy, and continuing to move in the right direction. For Eryn and her dedicated owners, this is wonderful news.

Without blood products supplied by Pet Blood Bank UK, stories like Eryn's could have a very different ending.

Could your dog help save a life?
Our next Pet Blood Bank donation session at HSR takes place on 19th July.

If your dog is:

- Between 1 and 8 years old
- Weighs over 25kg
- Happy, healthy, and confident
they may be eligible to become a lifesaving blood donor.
