On being where you are.
In the last few weeks life has presented a number of reminders to me that you cannot in fact be anywhere else but exactly where you are.
Sometimes there is nothing you can do about it, and in fact sometimes you might even wish to be somewhere else. But you are not somewhere else. You are right where you are.
Where I have not been recently is with any horses. A great tragedy and a definite sore spot. Oh how I have railed against accepting where I am.
For the first time in weeks I was able to get back on board with Mijas today. I was so excited.
We tacked up, warmed up, mounted, walked, trotted, cantered and practised some fancy postures. When the rain pelted us we ran together to the shelter of the stables, to return to our fun as the clouds cleared. All of it was wonderful.
But none of it was my favourite moment.
My favourite moment was when, after dismounting and untacking, Mijas looked at me and invited me to sit with her, to rest together after our activity.
Mijas has invited me to rest with her every time I have seen her since being back at the yard this week.
As soon as I do so she becomes completely soft and relaxed, half sleeping, in a striking resemblance to how my world has changed in recent weeks.
Today as I was indulging the moment, meeting Mijas where she was, I realised that somehow, she had also worked out how to meet me where I am.
Not where I want to be, not where I have been before, but exactly where I am right now.
She seems pretty happy about it to me.
So perhaps, if being where I am brings me the chance to experience beautiful moments like this, it is not so bad after all.
I feel such gratitude that my life has led me to have such beautiful relationships. My heart never feels fuller than when I can feel the friendship of a horse 🥰🦄
And what a gift, to know another creature so well that you can both adapt to each other, and enjoy being together right exactly where you are. It is probably right where you are meant to be ✨
