Lump removal surgery at Prima Vets 🐾

This patient underwent the careful removal of several skin masses under general anaesthesia, with continuous monitoring throughout the procedure. The surgical wounds were securely closed, and the patient was closely supervised during recovery.

Not every lump is harmless. If you notice a new lump—or a change in an existing one—book a veterinary examination.

🐾 Laparoscopy in dogs: small incisions, big benefits. 🔬🐶

At PrimaVets Clinic, we’re committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to every patient.

Laparoscopic (“keyhole”) surgery uses a camera and specialised instruments through small incisions. For suitable patients and procedures, it can offer potential benefits such as reduced tissue trauma, less post-operative discomfort and a smoother recovery.

🐶 3 things every new puppy owner should know! 🐾

✨ Socialisation isn’t about meeting everyone and every dog. It’s about helping your puppy experience the world in a positive, safe and confidence-building way.

💤 Sleep is SO important! Puppies need plenty of rest to support their growth, learning and emotional wellbeing. An overtired puppy can often become extra bitey, hyper or unable to settle.

🦴 Treats are a great tool for training, but remember that they all count towards your puppy’s daily food intake. Keep rewards small and use them to reinforce the behaviours you want to see again.

At Prima Vets, we’re here to support you through every stage of your puppy’s journey. 🐾❤️

👂🐾 Know the Signs of an Ear Infection

Ear infections can be uncomfortable and painful for both dogs and cats. Keep an eye out for signs such as:

🐾 Head shaking
🐾 Scratching or rubbing the ears
🐾 Redness or swelling
🐾 Unpleasant smell
🐾 Ear discharge
🐾 Pain or sensitivity
🐾 Head tilt

If your pet keeps getting ear infections, it’s important to investigate why they are recurring rather than simply treating each episode.

At PrimaVets, we can examine your pet’s ears and help identify the underlying cause, so we can provide the most appropriate treatment and help prevent future problems. ❤️

📩 If you notice any of these signs, contact PrimaVets to arrange an appointment.

🐶🐱 Is your pet carrying a little extra weight? ⚖️

It can be easy to miss gradual weight gain, especially when those puppy-dog eyes are asking for another treat! 🥹🐾

Here are a few simple things you can check at home:

👋 Feel the ribs: You should be able to feel your pet’s ribs easily without pressing hard.

👀 Look from above: Your pet should have a visible waist behind the ribs.

↔️ Look from the side: The tummy should tuck upwards towards the back legs rather than hanging down.

🐕 Notice changes: Less energy, difficulty jumping or climbing stairs, or getting tired more quickly can sometimes be linked to excess weight.

Even a small amount of extra weight can put additional strain on your pet’s joints and overall health. ❤️

If you’re unsure whether your pet is at a healthy weight, our team at Prima Vets can assess their body condition and help you create a healthy weight-management plan. 🩺🐾

Healthy weight. Healthy life. Happy pet. 💙

🌿 Why Do Dogs Eat Grass?

You’ve probably seen your dog happily munching on grass during a walk. But why do they do it? 🐶

The truth is, there isn’t just one answer.

🌱 They may simply enjoy it. Some dogs like the taste and texture of grass.

🧠 It can be instinctive behaviour. Dogs may naturally explore their environment with their mouths.

🍽️ Sometimes it’s related to their digestive system. However, eating grass doesn’t necessarily mean your dog has an upset stomach.

⚠️ When should you be concerned?
If grass-eating is sudden or excessive, or is accompanied by vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, lethargy, or other changes in behaviour, it’s a good idea to speak with your veterinarian.

And one more thing: always be careful that your pet isn’t eating grass treated with pesticides or other chemicals.

🐾 Not every unusual habit is a problem — but knowing what’s normal for your pet helps you recognise when something isn’t.

PrimaVets — helping you understand your pet, one little habit at a time. ❤️

🚨 Would you know if your pet needed emergency veterinary care? 🐶🐱

Some symptoms should never be ignored. Acting quickly can make a real difference to your pet’s health and wellbeing.

Seek urgent veterinary attention if your pet experiences:

🫁 Difficulty breathing
⚠️ Collapse or sudden severe weakness
🤮 Persistent or severe vomiting
☠️ Suspected poisoning
🩸 Severe bleeding
🚨 Seizures
💥 Serious injury or trauma
🐾 Sudden inability to walk or severe pain

If you’re worried about your pet, don’t wait for symptoms to worsen. Contact your vet for advice.

❤️ When in doubt, it’s always better to ask.
