We are revamping a few things here at NDH, and part of that is putting together a special booklet to give all our clients and potential clients, this will cover the new packages, FAQs, what we do and why, what to expect and everything in-between…

Think of it as your NDH bible.

My questions to you are -

🏆 DOG SHOW 🏆

Last year we held a Dog show for all our friends and clients.

A few people have asked if we’re doing it this year.

Unfortunately, we will not be doing it in 2026, however we hope to make it at least a biannual event and will bring it back next year in 2027. We do however have a public event here on the 31st of August, more info below!

We also usually show at the North East Dog Festival , however we will not be there this year as owner Rachel is a bridesmaid for Adele from Dashing Dogs Dog Training Academy that same weekend so this year we will be skipping but will be back next year!

We have already had the pleasure of attending Belsay International Horse Trials and bark in the park at Belsay Hall, providing Dog scurries and have a go agility.

We are sponsoring Slaley Show , and Bellingham Show in August and sponsored our Local Birtly Dog Show

🐑 On August 31st we host a sheep dog trial here on our farm, which is open to the public…

All money raised is for charity which this year will be Tynedale Hospice at Home and Hexham Hospital oncology Ward Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

It is an all day event and spectators can come from 8:30 am but I recommend coming just before lunchtime when we have the barbecue going for hot food and plenty cakes and tray bakes as well as our raffle!

Anyway, I just wanted to update everyone on where we will be for the rest of the Show season and let everyone know that there will not be a Dog show here this year but it will be back in 2027.

I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A FIVE STAR LICENSE REQUIREMENT!!

Loads of places have five star licenses, and that’s great.

Loads of people are running without a license at all, which is so much worse.

But that is a story for another day.

What gets me is actually even a five star license isn’t that great in my opinion.

Yes. That’s what I said.

The minimum requirements you have to meet are definitely there to protect your dog and help offer consistent, safe and responsible care.

BUT….

It’s still not that good.

Technically, we are allowed to leave your dogs from 6 pm and lock the door and don’t have to lay real eyes on them till 8 am.

OBVIOUSLY, We don’t do that.

I don’t do that with my own dogs so I don’t do that with yours.

But if we did, we would still be a five star license.

There are many other things such as the amount of space your Dog has to have, which for a five star license is 2.85 m²..

Again, we don’t do that…

Our sleeping areas alone are well over double that.

If I only ‘met’ the five star license requirements, I could have twice as many rooms, at least. But we didn’t do that.

We chose the dogs needs over our income and fitting extra rooms in.

A client recently said to me they think that it’s not fair that we are only five star when we hit so high above all the requirements.

I agree.

Maybe we should petition be a five star + 1 haha.

So whether you come to us, or you go to someone else, you need to be asking questions about how often your dogs are seen to every day, you need to ask to see their license if it’s not already displayed (as it should be) and you need to do your due diligence.

Please don’t take someone being licensed as meaning that they do a good job automatically.

OUR £2.99 BIBLE - THE HANDOVER BOOK ✨

As they say, often the simplest ideas are the best.

In previous jobs i had had a handover book to let the next shift know what was going on on the previous shift, and anything they need to be aware of.

I adopted this for our hotel, and now all staff fill in a handover sheet for every day that they’re here.

It includes who got walked with who, who shouldn’t be walked with who, if there were any issues, and if anyone needs any longlong lines, extra support etc on their walk. It includes who got what medication, and when etc, any injuries, any sickness and anyone that hasn’t eaten their food, any dogs that seem nervous and might extra attention as well as track all the extra enrichments have been completed etc.

We use this book to track literally everything that happened in a day -if there is anything at all that happened in a day it goes in this book

This means that no matter if someone is off sick, or if someone has to doublecheck that something did or didn’t happen on a day they were not in then we always have a record of it.

On top of this we use a whiteboard system to record welfare checks, water changes, walks completed, and lots of other info that is clearly visible for everyone.

The handover book ensures that nothing ever gets missed, it means that if I need to go back and look at something, then there is information there for every single day.

This system became particularly important when I was poorly in the second half of last year and the first half of this year. I was in hospital and recovering for quite some time.

It meant that nothing, and I mean nothing got missed.

It meant that I have the peace of mind that I can always doublecheck if there is any doubt.

It gives us the security that if someone gets poorly and doesn’t have time to tell someone something that they have or haven’t done yet, then it doesn’t matter because it’s already here..

If you’re a dog owner reading this - this is our standard here. ✨

If you’re a dog boarding business like us reading this, then I recommend that you adopt your own version of this. It’s priceless.
