When Roma's owners found him bleeding from a hole in his top lip, they brought him in for a consultation with vet Rowena who, upon examining him, found that he had two very badly fractured canine teeth.

An injection of pain relief was given and Roma was booked in the following day for an emergency dental with Paulina.

After full mouth dental x-rays were taken and all teeth were examined fully sadly, it was found that five teeth were fractured beyond saving and so were extracted. Roma's mandible, the lower jaw, was also very lax and so Paulina fitted cerclage surgical wire to stabilise the jaw.

Roma recovered well from his procedure and was sent home with pain relief. He will visit our nursing team for post-operative check ups and in 6-8 weeks he will come back for the wiring to be removed 💚

This fabulous duo is Bonsai and Amber.

Bonsai is a British Short Hair - a breed of cat well known for their thick coats, round faces and big copper eyes (which they use to hypnotise the veterinary team into providing chin and butt scratches!).

Whereas Amber, the Cocker Spaniel, a charming and affectionate breed with beautiful wavy ears - charmed Annika our auxilliary nurse/receptionist for extra tasty treats whilst relaxing in her kennel 💚

🚨Travelling abroad with your pet has changed🚨

From April 22nd, EU pet passports issued in a EU member state to Northern Ireland and GB residents are no longer valid for travel.

❌ Dogs, cats and ferrets will all need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) to travel to the EU.

An AHC is an official document issued by a vet that confirms your pet meets the health and vaccination requirements for travel to certain countries.

✅ It includes details such as your pet’s microchip number and rabies vaccination
✅ It’s completed and signed by an Official Veterinarian
✅ It’s usually issued shortly before you travel

📅 You’ll need to contact your vet in advance so an appointment can be arranged within the required timeframe.

The ever-so-handsome Wilson came to the practice as he had two very painful carnassial teeth - the largest teeth of the dog, specially designed to shear and cut meat.

Wilson underwent a general anaesthetic so we could clean away the accumulated tartar, and under further examination it was found that both upper carnassial teeth were indeed fractured.

Sadly, we see these fractures quite commonly and they are caused by dogs chewing on things that are just too hard for their teeth - in Wilson's case, this was an antler.

Paulina promptly administered local nerve blocks to both sites and extracted both teeth, closing the surgical sites with dissolvable sutures. Wilson went home with additional pain relief to help him heal up at home and will visit the nursing team for his post-operative check-ups.

Dinky diva NuWa came in for her neutering procedure and of course we all fell in love with her 😻

One of the most important things you can do for your cat is to have them neutered - preventing unwanted litters, lowering risks of reproductive health issues and overall prolonging their lives!

NuWa will be seen by our nursing team for her post-operative check ups, here's to a speedy recovery little lady 💚

Pets are naturally curious and love to explore every surface in the home - but
some everyday cleaning products can pose a hidden risk.

Certain disinfectants contain ingredients that can irritate your pet’s skin and mouth.

Cats are at particular risk as they groom themselves so often that even walking over a recently cleaned floor can lead to exposure.

When using cleaning products:
• Keep pets out of the area until surfaces are fully dry
• Always follow dilution instructions
• Store products safely out of reach

If your pet shows signs such as drooling, pawing at the mouth, redness or vomiting after contact with a cleaner, seek advice immediately.

Chocolate might be a treat for us, but it can be dangerous for dogs!

All types of chocolate can be dangerous with the dark
chocolate being the most toxic -even small amounts of chocolate can cause vomiting, tremors and heart palpitations.

With Easter treats around the home, keep all chocolate safely out of reach.

If your dog eats chocolate of any type, contact your vet as soon as possible - don’t wait for symptoms to appear.
