Cookie has been in her home for 11 years and seen 2 of the families daughters through Pony club and competitions, she is now sadly completely outgrown and needs to find a new child to make happy!

She is an out and out school mistress for the competitive child who wants a pony who knows her job inside out, she is happy now jumping up to 90cm. Is fantastic and brave over both coloured and XC fences and loves fun jumping! To school on the flat cookie is responsive and works nicely. She is a very forward going ride and is not suitable for nervous or novice jockeys because of that.

She is a very impressive CV having done everything from hunting to pony racing and eventing, and a really lovely mare. 100% Load, shoe and clip.

VERY sad sale for a private client so please no timewasters or joy riders. Full vet history available following viewing and a serious enquiry.

Safe & easy happy hack and easy first pony type

Harry is a super sweet and laid back pony, perfect if you prefer a leg on type. He’s great to gain confidence doing lower level activities.

To school Harry is super, balanced and easy, he rides in a simple snaffle bridle and requires little to no effort - just a real pleasure. he is not overly forward or rushy yet nicely tuned in with a soft mouth. He is a leg on ride and a snaffle mouth so would suit a rider who likes to push them on.

Harry loves to jump both coloured and XC fences, he pops round 60/70cm at home with absolute ease. Harry is steady and easy to a fence an uncomplicated jumper who is nice and easy to adjust and will always help out his rider. Harry will hack both alone and in company, he will hack out first or last in open spaces or the busiest of traffic.

This super safe ride will be an absolute credit to most families.

*** Why we must stop looking for the perfect horse ***

From a veterinary point of view, no horse is perfect. We must stop thinking that if we look hard enough, we’ll find the perfect horse. He/she doesn’t exist. All that happens is that we miss out on the “not so perfect” horse that actually would have been the perfect horse.

If we look hard enough, especially with our X-ray machines, we can find something wrong with every single horse. We will find some kind of change in a joint of most horses over the age of six or seven. Before anyone starts, that’s not because they have been started too young. I spend some of my spare time looking at the radiographs provided publicly for auctions, and I can always find something wrong. These are often unbacked 3 year olds.

I have posted before that X-ray changes often don’t correlate with pain, or even future pain/lameness.

In my opinion, X-rays should be used to plan what help the horse *may* require in the future, and not to write a perfectly sound horse off. And for the record, I’d never medicate the joint of a sound horse, based on radiographic changes alone.

I often hear people say that they’ve had 5 horses fail a vetting, and that the “perfect” horse must be out there. Actually, you’ve probably just missed that perfect horse. Obviously a horse that is lame at PPE (the vetting) is an absolute no. But a horse with some hock arthritis, or some close DSPs (“kissing spines”) that is currently out competing and has an uninterrupted competition record, may well have been your perfect horse. Likewise, that horse with the sarcoid (that can be lasered off) may well provide you with years of fun.

I bought Johnnie as a 9 year old with significant hock arthritis. I took a chance, as his X-rays were very bad. He went on to be the most exceptional Event horse I have ever sat on, going from Novice to Advanced in two seasons, and then subsequently popping around 4*s like they were 90cm. His back X-rays were just as bad. He was the perfect horse.

X-rays are useful, but we must be incredibly careful with their interpretation. We must also be incredibly cautious when deciding if a horse’s behaviour is due to that pathology found on the X-ray, or whether it is just a sharp, fit horse. I am a vet, so will always question if a certain behaviour is due to pain, but I am also a horsewoman, so I don’t agree that every buck, rear, spook and nap is due to pain.

So if your PPE/vetting picks up a few manageable issues, that horse hasn’t “failed” his vetting, and may very well still be the perfect horse. I’m praying the green, tense little chap that I’ve just bought, with several sarcoids on his ears, turns out to be just that 🤞

✅ Buyers are placing a premium on safety and reliability. A horse with proven experience, a kind temperament, and a straightforward attitude is often worth far more than its competition record alone.

The reality is that buying the cheapest horse can often become the most expensive option if significant schooling, veterinary treatment, or professional training is required afterwards.

Stunning gelding with an excellent education and beautiful expressive paces. He’s got bags of natural talent, is uphill and has a lovely temperament. He’s got a good record to Novice and is lightly competed due to time restraints, not ability! He would suit an amateur who wants a talented but sensible horse to enjoy.

He’s working elementary/medium at home and he has a green change which is coming along by quickly. He would also do riding club activities and will pop over poles, he enjoys variety in his work. To ride he isn’t hot or too forward, and has rideable paces. He was professionally produced as a younger horse and we know his full history, keeping him for ourselves but sadly a lack of time over the last year means we want him to be out having fun!!

He has no health issues, vices or quirks, is in work and ready to be enjoyed. Great to load and travel, shoe and have on the yard.
