Overexposing is not training. It’s flooding. 🛑Taking a reactive dog into the middle of a crowded park or forcing them to stay near their trigger won't "cure" them. It actually pushes their nervous system into survival mode. When a dog shuts down or stops reacting out of pure exhaustion, that isn't progress—it's learned helplessness.Real progress happens under threshold, where your dog feels safe enough to learn. The lovely Indie here was pretty terrified of me, everything & everyone when we first met…fast forward 6 weeks & I’ve enjoyed a lovely chutch 🥰 with him! He’s always going to have an ‘edge’ to him , we’re all different after all but it’s about how we cope in different environments & at home & learning to cope. Indie is so much better & less vocal at home, easier to walk & becoming better at learning to self-calm, I’m really proud of him 🏆🎉👏

What Your Dog Does AFTER You Leave Matters 🏠
Does your dog bark when you leave?
Destroy things?
Pace?
Whine?
Scratch doors?

Or perhaps they're perfectly fine when you're gone for five minutes but struggle when you're away for longer? Maybe you've got one of those shadows who follows you around the house!

Teaching your puppy or dog to be settled when left is a Life Skill ❤
❌It's not simply a case of:
“Just leave them and they'll get used to it.”
For some dogs, that can actually make things worse.

✅Start gradually.
Pay attention to what your dog is telling you & build from there
And don't be afraid to get help if you're struggling - I've lots of tips to help :-)

New puppy owners? ❤️☺
At the moment I'm welcoming quite a few of you! I'm always asked 'what are the main things I should be doing or training? My top tip always surprise people! 😬
💥Don't do TOO much!
Yes of course you want to focus on routines/house training etc. but regarding training, don't go overboard. Those first few days/couple of weeks when pup comes home are crucial for socialization but also for bonding and settling, make the most of it because you'll never get that time back ☺

Yep - I don't just help dogs from Tynedale! It's wonderful for me to be able to offer behaviour support so widely. I have several dogs with me at the moment travelling from the Cumbrian coast, Manchester, Scotland and Leeds - these dogs primarily are vet referral dogs whose owners have sought help from an accredited ABTC practitioner. Of course also, I offer zoom sessions which takes my help even further down the country and occasionally abroad....so please don't think mileage is an obstacle to help! 😁

❌Teaching a paw shake isn't just 'a trick' it can be very useful for your dog to learn that having his paws touched is great fun - think about the times you might need to trim those nails or paw fur and maybe remove a tick or see to a snagged/pulled dew claw? 😬❤️‍🩹
