Today, Kate and Jo had a lovely morning at Alvechurch Riding Club camp held at Lincomb Equestrian. They took with them the portable weigh bridge to discuss weight management.

🪱 National SQP week 🐎 💊

Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) – also known as Animal Medicines Advisors, support responsible animal medicine use and promote better welfare. To achieve SQP status, individuals must complete an accredited qualification and then ongoing CPD to remain registered.

They can prescribe and supply certain animal medicines.

Claire, Rosie and Hayley have all trained to get their qualification to be an SQP in our practice. If you have ever had a query regarding worming then you most likely would have spoken to one of our wonderful SQP’s.

Thank you for all you hard work ladies.

🪱 National SPQ Week 🐎 💊

This week we are introducing National SQP Week- a nationwide celebration of the vital role that Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs), also known as Animal Medicines Advisors, play in protecting the health and wellbeing of pets, horses, livestock and birds across the UK.

SQPs are highly trained animal medicines advisors who can prescribe, dispense and supply certain animal medicines and provide essential guidance to millions of owners every year, ensuring animals get the right treatments safely and responsibly. As a nation of animal lovers, this is a role that rightly deserves to be celebrated for the positive impact it has on animal wellbeing.

Join us as we shine a spotlight on their expertise and the difference they make.

We recently welcomed Rosie H to the office support team as a receptionist, although Rosie is a fast learner there is a lot to absorb so please be patient while we get her up to speed!

Rosie joins us with a wealth of experience from the corporate financial world and also has a BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy degree. In addition to this, Rosie has her own horses - Corky a cheeky miniature Shetland and Olympus a young Connemara who she is currently bringing on.

When Rosie isn’t at the clinic admitting patients and answering the phone, you’ll likely find her busy with her physiotherapy business or spending time at the yard.

With all Rosie's knowledge and transferable skills, she will be a strong support to the rest of our office team and is looking forward to helping you all and your horses, ponies and donkeys!

💩 Poo Picking 💩

Many of us consider poo picking to be a bit of a ‘necessary evil’ when we own a horse. We remove manure mainly to help manage the worm burden of our horses but did you know that there are several other benefits too?

💩 It improves grazing quality. Piles of manure, if left, will starve the grass underneath of air & light which leaves bald patches of ground. These patches are ideal for ragwort to grow in. The better the pasture, the more difficult it is for ragwort to grow.

💩 Manure attracts flies so if you remove it, that means less flies hanging around to irritate and bite your horse.

💩 Manure contains phosphorus and nitrogen which can run off the pasture and into the local watercourse which impacts the balance between aquatic weeds and aquatic life.

💩 Composted manure does not present such a problem as the nutrients become more stable during the composting process so are less likely to leach away.

🚶‍♀️ It helps keep us fit! Walking, bending, stretching is all good exercise for us!

So all that poo picking is definitely worth it – it’s good for our horses, our pasture and us too!

It’s been a busy Stud season at Corner House!

It's definitely been that time of year when our vet Kate spends more time at the back of the horse than the front 🤣

Although as a perk she also gets to play with last years creations 🤩

The annual CVS Team Distance Challenge is back - and this year it is down under- as we take on the Australian east coast.

Throughout May, teams of up to five colleagues will combine their distances to see how far they can travel along our virtual map.

We have 2 teams involved this year, we have a few more days to go! Attached are pictures of the virtual map and how far TEAM CHEC 1 have done so far!

This challenge is all about getting outdoors, being active. Alongside a bit of friendly competition, it's also a great way to boost your mental and physical wellbeing!
