When the weather’s like this, finding a cool shady spot becomes the most important job of the day!🌳🐾

This lovely pup knew exactly what they were doing, taking a well earned break in the shade and enjoying a slower pace. On hot days, all of our walks are adapted to keep everyone safe and comfortable, with plenty of shade, water breaks, and lots of listening to what the dogs need.

Chilling in the Shade 😎

It’s been a scorcher today, so we kept things slow and sensible on our walk. The dogs found the best shady spot and took full advantage 🐾🌳

No mad running about, just calm pottering, plenty of water, and lots of cool-down breaks. These are the days where listening to the dogs — and the weather — matters more than mileage.

Because working breeds will keep going if you ask them to, a big part of looking after them properly is knowing when to press pause and let them just be.

TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR DOG SAFE IN HOT WEATHER ☀️

With temperatures set to climb this week, it’s so important we put our dogs’ wellbeing first. Here are some simple but essential tips:

🐾 Avoid walking during the hottest part of the day (usually between 11am–3pm). Early morning or late evening walks are much safer and more comfortable for your dog.

🐾 Always carry fresh water and offer it regularly.

🐾 Stick to shaded routes where possible, and avoid hot pavements — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

🐾 Keep exercise gentle — no long hikes or ball-chasing marathons in the heat.

🐾 Know the signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, confusion, vomiting, or collapse.

🐕‍🦺 As a professional dog walker, I mostly care for dogs whilst their owners are at work. During very hot weather, I adjust my walking schedules to suit each dog’s needs, prioritising their safety by shortening walks, choosing shady routes, avoiding peak heat times wherever possible, or sometimes even offering garden visits with enrichment games. Every decision is made with the dogs’ welfare in mind.
