🐱 Cat First Aid – Would You Know What to Do? 🩹

Cats have an unfortunate talent for getting themselves into trouble! Knowing a few first-aid basics can make a real difference while you’re getting veterinary help.

🐾 In an emergency:
• Keep calm and handle your cat gently – pain and fear can make even friendly cats bite or scratch. If they are distressed, and you need to move them e.g. into the cat carrier, it can help to wrap them gently in a large towel or blanket and move them in that.
• Bleeding? Apply firm, gentle pressure with a clean cloth or dressing. If your cat objects and wriggles, then better to get to the vet as movement will make bleeding worse.
• Burns? Need urgent treatment. If your cat will allow cover the area with clingfilm or a clean dressing.
• Suspected poisoning? Keep packages, or if a plant, take a photo to identify it. The Veterinary Poisons Information Service has a 24 hour helpline. 01202 509 000
• Accident or fall? Keep them warm, quiet and move them as little as possible.
• Breathing difficulties, collapse or severe bleeding? Seek veterinary help immediately.

🐾❤️ How do you remember a much-loved pet?

One of the privileges of providing end-of-life care in a pet’s own home is that, when we come to help them on their final journey, we often find ourselves surrounded by the story of their life.

There are family photographs on the walls and shelves, cushion covers, blankets, with the pet we have come to see right at the centre. A younger face looking back at us from the garden, a holiday photo, curled up beside the children, sitting proudly in a favourite chair. Part of everyday family life.

Of course, it is an incredibly sad time. But there is also something very special about being given those little glimpses into a pet’s life and seeing just how much happiness, companionship and love they have brought to their family over the years.

Afterwards, everyone finds their own way to remember them. It might be a gravestone like this one, their ashes in a favourite place, a tree planted in the garden, a framed photograph or simply a collection of wonderful memories.

💊🐾 Now we've got your attention with a cute picture, here's a little reminder about repeat prescriptions!

We know life gets busy and it’s surprisingly easy to suddenly realise there are only two tablets left in the packet! 😬

To help us make sure your pet’s medication is ready when you need it, please give us at least FIVE WORKING DAYS’ notice when ordering repeat prescriptions.

Why do we need a little time? Every repeat prescription needs to be checked and authorised by a vet to make sure the medication and dose are still appropriate for your pet. We may then need to order the medication before we can dispense it.

📅 Weekends and Bank Holidays don’t count as working days, so please remember to factor these in too.

Our clinician's are super busy seeing poorly pets so it is most efficient if we are able to post medications out to you. Or you are , of course, welcome to collect them from the surgery. In extremely urgent circumstances we can deliver meds, but there is a charge for this.

Our top tip? Don’t wait until you reach the last tablet! When you open that final strip, bottle or packet, have a quick check and pop your next order in.
