This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (11th–17th May).

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that behind every farm gate is a person carrying enormous responsibility.

Farmers work long hours, often in isolation, facing pressures from weather, finances, rising costs, and uncertainty…all while helping feed the nation. Yet mental health in farming is still too often overlooked or left unspoken.

The theme this year is “Action” - for yourself, for someone else, for all of us. While awareness is vital, real change comes when we take action.

This week, we’d like to encourage our clients and community to make an active effort, even just once, to check in on a neighbour, friend, or family member. A conversation, a visit, or simply asking, “How are you really doing?” can make a difference.

Strength in farming isn’t just about resilience, it’s also about knowing when to talk, seek support, and support each other.

No one should ever feel they have to struggle alone. 💚

On Wednesday we held our Red Tractor approved “Using Medicines Responsibly” course.

It was a great evening with plenty of engagement from our clients throughout. The session provided an excellent refresher and finished with case scenarios and group discussions, giving everyone the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice.

A big thank you to Alex for presenting the course, and to Helston Rugby Club for hosting us!

If you missed out this time but would like to attend a future course, then please let us know. Once we have enough names we’ll run it again.

Happy World Veterinary Day! 🐄🐑🐖🦙🐏🐔

This year’s theme, “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” feels especially meaningful to us here at Amethi. As a team of dedicated farm vets, we see firsthand the vital role our work plays every single day within the agricultural industry.

Not every day goes to plan, and some are certainly tougher than others. But the good days far outweigh the challenges. We feel incredibly fortunate to work in an industry we’re so passionate about.

We genuinely love what we do, have so much fun working together as our awesome team of three, and most importantly, adore supporting all of you - our wonderful clients!

Thank you for trusting us to care for your animals. 💚

🚨 Red Tractor Approved Medicine Course – Don’t Miss Out! 🚨

Medicine training is a mandatory requirement for Red Tractor assurance, so now is the perfect time to check if you’re due a refresher.

While essential for farm assurance, this course is highly relevant to all farms across all species - we’d strongly recommend attending!

💉 There will also be an optional practical session, arranged at a later date for those interested. This will include the opportunity to practise injection techniques on carcasses.

👩‍🌾 Good to know: Price is per farm, not per person. So, there is no limit on how many people can attend from the same farm. Please let us know numbers in advance

✅ A great opportunity to stay compliant, build confidence, and refresh your knowledge - be sure not to miss it!

🪰 Fly Control: Don’t Let Them Bug Your Stock! 🐄🐑

As temperatures rise, flies become more than just a nuisance – they can impact animal welfare, spread disease, and reduce productivity.

A proactive fly control plan can make all the difference:
✔️ Reduce breeding sites (manage muck heaps, wet areas, and waste feed)
✔️ Use appropriate pour-ons
✔️ Consider environmental controls like fly traps or predators
✔️ Keep animals clean to reduce risk of fly strike (e.g. dagging sheep)
✔️ Monitor regularly and act early before numbers build up

If any of your animals do develop fly strike, get in touch promptly. We can advise over the phone on initial treatment and arrange a visit if needed.

Stay ahead of the flies and keep your animals comfortable and thriving.

🐄💩 Faecal Egg Counts: Small Test, Big Impact! 💩🐑

Regular faecal egg counts (FECs) are a simple, effective way to monitor parasite burdens in your livestock. Instead of routine blanket worming, FECs help you make informed decisions - treating only when necessary.

✔️ Protects animal health and performance
✔️ Reduces the risk of wormer resistance
✔️ Saves money by avoiding unnecessary treatments
✔️ Supports more sustainable parasite control

As we move into the grazing season, now is the perfect time to check where your animals stand.

Get in touch with us to organise your FEC or to chat about a tailored parasite control plan for your farm 📞
