Archie had his special birthday bath this morning, all fresh and fluffy and ready for another very important appointment with his cardiologist. 🩺💙
Today, on his 10th birthday, Archie had a more in-depth heart scan with the cardiologist to see how his heart was doing compared with his last cardiology scan in 2024.
Back then, they found that some of his heart valves were leaking, but thankfully there was no enlargement of his heart so didn't need medication.
Since then, our vet has also carried out a couple of scans to keep an eye on things.
Earlier this year, our vet noticed that Archie’s heart murmur had become slightly louder, so another scan was arranged and Archie started his heart medication in March as his heart had started to enlarge.
Today’s more detailed scan confirmed that his heart has now become enlarged and there is more leakage from his valves. 💔 Archie has mitral valve disease (MVD), which is sadly very common in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. ❤️🐾
The positive is that Archie is already on the medication he needs to help manage his condition, so we’ll continue with that and keep a close eye on our special boy. Keeping a regular record of his resting breaths, along with routine vet check-ups and yearly scans with his cardiologist, is super important to help monitor his condition, keep it as controlled as possible, and hopefully slow its progression.
It’s certainly not the birthday news we would have wished for, but Archie is still his happy, cheeky, stubborn little self and very much believes he is The Boss! 😂🐾
So today, we’re celebrating 10 wonderful years of Archie — our beautiful boy who means the absolute world to us. 🎂❤️
