Poppyfield Equestrian Riding School Catering to adults and children who wish to learn to ride or those returning to riding in a comforta

Poppyfield Equestrian was established in 1996 by Simon Kettleboro and his Daughter Jo Kettleboro. Jo had long been a keen rider and she together with her father wanted to provide less fortunate children with the opportunity to see life from on horseback, where so often the view of the world is so much greater. Determined that this should not be a pastime available to only those with available funds, but to those with passion, drive and enthusiasm, Poppyfield came into existence. The Lincoln riding school centre prides itself on being family based and orientated with a happy atmosphere and team. Poppyfield is BHS (British Horse Society) Approved, which means that they are regularly inspected and has to perform to very high standards. It is also an Approved Pony Club Centre which regularly runs activity days and courses for the children, such as 'Own a Pony' Days, Examination Days and many fun activities throughout the year. We cater for everyone from the small child to the Adult Learner, and provide first time ponies to Elementary level and show jumping horses for clients to ride. We also offer fantastic hacking/ treks in the beautiful countryside.Poppyfield Equestrian has on offer BHS Badge Days, multiple levels of Horse Livery, Horse riding lessons, many levels of horse training and an onsite Poppyfields Shop. By being an approved BHS riding school we pride ourselves on maintaining the highest possible standards. BHS regularly inspect Poppyfield Equestrian to check that we meet their requirements for safety, horse welfare and tuition, ensuring compliance and giving you peace of mind. Poppyfield Equestrian undergo an additional, training specific inspection to ensure that the training provided for career students meets the standard we have been approved to deliver. Instructors at Poppyfield Equestrian responsible for training are qualified members of the BHS and must stay up-to-date with current standards by attending seminars and conferences.

⛔️IMPORTANT READ!⛔️

🌡️ Heat stroke in horses is a serious condition and can happen much quicker than people realise. Even with sensible management, plenty of water, shade, and appropriate cooling down after exercise, horses can still become overheated. Knowing the signs and acting quickly can make all the difference.

Despite appropriate cooling down intervention, we still managed to have a horse that showed symptoms of heat stroke, with a temperature of 39.7°C and rapid respiratory rates, without having any exercise! It was a worrying situation, but with the appropriate measures, advice from the vets, and a lot of hard work, we managed to get his temperature back down to 37.9°C—and, most importantly, back to being a much happier horse. 💙😊 This was all done as well as thoroughly cooling down a yard of nearly 30 horses between 2 of us despite over heating ourselves in 35 degree heat!!

This is a reminder to everyone to keep a close eye on your horses during the warm weather. Don’t ignore the signs, take temperatures if you’re concerned, and never hesitate to contact your vet if something doesn’t seem right.

A huge thank you to the vets for their advice and support. We’re very relieved to see this handsome boy feeling so much brighter. 🐴💦☀️
