Storm Austen certainly hasn’t been kind to us this morning! 🌧️💨

Left the house at 5:15am to get to the horses, with plenty of damage to contend with along the way. Lots of moving branches and foliage out of the roads just to get where I needed to be!

All 3 yards are now sorted ✅ and I’ve finally made my way back home for a couple of hours to warm up, dry off and recharge before heading back out again! 🥶☕️

A big morning already, and a reminder that horse care doesn’t stop when the weather turns nasty! 💜🐴

We are currently seeing cases of sycamore toxicity (atypical myopathy) and have reports of cases from other practices in Yorkshire. Any horses grazing pasture with sycamore trees are considered at risk; the dry summer and recent windy weather may have contributed to production of lots of seeds (‘spinning jennies’, ‘helicopter seeds’) which are now falling on pastures. Signs vary from lethargy, stiffness and low head carriage, to increased lying down, inability to get up, sweating and colic signs, as well as passing brown urine. These signs should be considered a potential emergency and need immediate veterinary attention.

Please contact the hospital to speak to one of our vets if you have concerns about your horse, or your local veterinary surgeon if further afield.

If there are sycamore seeds on your pasture, then things that will help include removing horses from that field/raking up the seeds/feeding additional forage in the field/using electric fencing to fence off affected areas.

Happy hump day, we’ve made it to the middle of the week. I feel that deserves a celebration!😂

Did you know that I have a mailing list that runs once a month that shares any offers I have (mailing list only!), seasonal updates and availability that you can see first?

If you’ve been putting off going on holiday because you’re worried about who will look after your horses, this is for you!! ✈️

Holiday cover is something that I’ve been super lucky to be trusted with time and time again, with all kinds of horses. From your easy-doers, spicy ponies, horses with numerous different health conditions, posh competition horses and everything in between! 🐴

I’m more than happy to follow your horse’s usual routine and instructions, so you can head off knowing they’re being well looked after while you enjoy some well-deserved YOU TIME! This is always followed by pictures and videos throughout their time with me 📷

No job is too big or too small, and I’m always happy to have a chat beforehand about exactly what your horses need 💜

Mane and tail tidy for this lovely pony last week. She had some tail damage from some goat friends 🐐so needed a tidy up. And unfortunately had a rug rub on her neck also. Hopefully now her mane will start to grow out more even ready for next showing season 💪🏼

I’ve had a lovely 2 days off and back to work to see your ponies tomorrow! 💜
