‼️ Colic ‼️
🚨Colic is a general term for abdominal pain in horses. It can range from mild to a life-threatening emergency, so early veterinary assessment is important.
👀 Signs of colic can include:
• Pawing or restlessness
• Looking at or kicking towards the abdomen
• Repeatedly lying down or getting up
• Rolling or attempting to roll
• Sweating
• Stretching out as if to urinate
• Reduced or absent droppings
• Loss of appetite
• A change in behaviour or appearing dull
☎️ When should you call the vet?
Call your vet if you suspect your horse has colic. Even if the signs seem mild, it's better to seek advice early.
🚑 While you're waiting for the vet:
✅ Remove access to food
✅ Keep your horse somewhere safe and quiet
✅ Monitor your horse closely and note any changes
✅ Check for droppings
❌ Don't give your horse food
❌ Don't administer medication unless advised by your vet
❌ Don't force your horse to walk
❌ Don't put yourself at risk if your horse is distressed or violently rolling
