Consent is so important.even with my dogs i will pet, then remove hands. Do they want me to continue or stop? This build trust, confidence and helps us to understand our fogs / pets better. I also never just lay hands on a dog or put pressure on them, instead I wait for them to invite me. They may just want to sniff and check me out rather than have physical touch, I let them do what they need. If they just walk off that's fine, or they may indicate eg nuzzling, pawing etc that they do want physical contact.
❗️Remember to stop, take hands off the dog, see if the dog still wants that interaction. It's also important that the dogs learns our cues too.
It's OK to not pet you dog when they demand . it may not be OK for you at that time, you could be working, in pain etc.
Boundaries are a really good thing. It makes humans and animals feel safe. You dog won't stop loving you just because you can't snuggle with you because you boss expects you to turn up for work 😊
With Prinnie who is the biggest snuggle monster, we have time in the morning and at bed time for big snuggles. That works perfectly for us. 😊
