My research on concussion in equestrian sport has been shared by Horse & Hound🐴
So grateful for them sharing this - hopefully it helps start more conversations.

“Change starts with education and by sharing these stories, we can begin to turn knowledge into action within the sport, supporting riders through their concussion recovery journeys.” - Amelia Collins

Lack of concussion awareness and misdiagnosis contribute to delayed recovery in riders – but action is being taken. Read more below

🌷 Spring is creeping closer... and that
can only mean one thing
Our Psychology in the Saddle day camps are coming up! 🌷
📅 26th April - Confidence Jump
📅 24th May - Confidence Jump
What's included:
✅ Two sport psychology theory sessions
✅ Two tailored ridden sessions with a confidence jump tocus
→ progressive exercises from flatwork and poles through to jumping
→ exploring and developing the key sources of rider confidence
✅ Stable & venue hire
✅ Snacks & refreshments provided

The reel above is from a previous autumn day camp where we explored the body's natural fear responses fight, flight and freeze and how the brain processes these through the nervous system.
Riders were then introduced to practical psychological tools to help them stay calm, centred and present in the saddle. Through breathwork and mindful connection, they not only found their own grounding but also opened the door to clearer, more compassionate communication with their horses.

These camps are special because riders leave with more than just a good ride. They walk away with tools they can use every day, in and out of the saddle.

While technique is an essential part of any rider's journey, understanding the psychological side adds a deeper layer of awareness and connection. A rider who can recognise and regulate their nervous system can approach challenges with clarity and composure, building trust and confidence in both horse and rider.

Psychology doesn't replace technique.
It enhances it!!

That's why riders show up calmer, clearer and more connected and that's what makes Psychology in the Saddle so powerful. "Honestly, the day camp was just amazing. We both took away SO much more than we could have possibly hoped for. You genuinely gave me so many tools to take forward and I've come away with so much confidence. The clinic was just perfect from start to finish. We will absolutely be seeing you again"

It's been a busy and incredibly rewarding start to the year and I've been reflecting on just how much has happened over the past few months.

Following the launch of my official sport psychology consultancy , I've been thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to support athletes both within the equestrian field and across other sports.

Working with individuals in different performance environments continues to highlight just how important the psychological side of sport is.

I've also really enjoyed being able to apply this side of my work into my coaching, where I've had the pleasure of delivering:
* Multiple Psychology in the Saddle courses at
* A Rider Mindset Q&A morning session with
* A half-day educational collaboration with looking at a Rider Reset: Pre-Competition Workshop exploring the Mind/Body/Horse

Alongside these sessions, I've also been running a number of targeted showjumping clinics, including:
* Performance Under Pressure
* Hesitation Before a Fence
* Confidence Jump

It has also been great to continue supporting athletes through one-to-one consultations, both within equestrian sport and in other sport performance settings.

In addition, I recently shared a article based on my most recent research project exploring female equestrian concussion recovery journeys, an area I'm incredibly passionate about raising awareness for within the sport.

Feeling incredibly grateful to be able to support individuals psychological development, both in and out of the saddle. Looking forward to what the rest of the year brings. &

🌟 Rider of the Month 🌟
A huge congratulations to Alice on receiving our Rider of the Month award! 👏🐴
It’s been so good to watch you and Phish really start to come together. Taking on a young horse is never easy, but your commitment and work ethic are already having such a positive impact on him.
You take everything on board and really think about what’s being said, and it’s great to see you beginning to trust your own feel more. That growing confidence is showing in the quiet, consistent way you’re riding each week.
What stands out most is how much you put your horse first. You’re patient, you don’t rush him, and you give Phish the time he needs to understand what’s being asked. You don’t just tick boxes, you listen, reflect and come back each week ready to improve and build on the last session.
Producing a young pony takes determination, resilience and maturity beyond your years, and you’re showing all of that and more.
It’s a pleasure to coach you, Alice. You and Phish are building something really special — keep trusting the process and enjoying the journey 💙

⚠New research highlights the need for vastly improved concussion awareness within equestrian sport.

In 2025, Rider Minds supported researcher Amelia Collins in recruiting participants for an interview study exploring the lived recovery experiences of female riders, and the results were alarming.
