This breaks my heart, but here goes...
🐾 A heartfelt goodbye from Paws and Mittens 🐾
After more than 14 years of rescue, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Paws and Mittens.
Since starting in May 2012, Paws and Mittens has helped over 1000 animals — cats, kittens, dogs, hedgehogs and rabbits — giving them the care, safety and second chances they deserve. ❤️
This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. The reason for closing is simply that I no longer have the time and capacity to make the commitment that rescue requires, and I feel it is important to be honest about that rather than continue when I cannot give it the time it deserves.
I want to say the biggest THANK YOU to every single person who has been part of the Paws and Mittens journey.
🐾 To everyone who adopted and gave one of our animals a loving home — thank you for changing their lives.
🐾 To our amazing fosters, especially those who opened their homes time and time again — I genuinely could not have done this without you.
🐾 To everyone who donated, sponsored, fundraised, shared posts, offered supplies, transported animals, trapped cats, or simply supported us from the sidelines — every bit of help mattered.
🐾 To our sponsors and supporters who believed in what we were doing — your kindness helped make so much possible.
There have been difficult days, heartbreaking days and plenty of sleepless nights, but there have also been so many wonderful moments. Seeing frightened animals become happy, loved pets has made every minute worthwhile. ❤️
Although Paws and Mittens will be closing as a rescue, I won't completely disappear!
I will still be around to:
Help with microchip checking
Offer advice and support with missing cats
Provide ongoing advice, care and support for any Paws and Mittens cats that have been adopted by us in the past.
The rescue bank account will be closed, your generous sponsorship payments will no longer be taken.
There are only very limited funds remaining in the account. These will be transferred to other cat rescues, along with the remaining rescue supplies where possible — including traps, beds, carriers, litter trays, food, shelters and other equipment — so that they can continue helping animals in need.
And finally, I couldn't say goodbye without mentioning my five current "forever fosters". 🐾❤️
These are the remaining 5 who, for one reason or another, I could never find the right homes for. So they stayed — and stayed — and somehow became permanent members of the family.
They have given me more love than I could ever put into words, and I am so lucky to have them.
Thank you. Truly. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has followed Paws and Mittens, supported us, shared our posts, opened their homes, donated, adopted, fostered and simply cared.
Your support over the years has meant more than you will ever know.
Closing Paws and Mittens is not an easy decision, and there will always be a huge part of my heart that belongs to the animals and people who have been part of this journey.
From me, and my five very spoilt forever fosters, thank you for everything. 🐾❤️
With so much love,
Danielle ###
