🐾 RESCUE STORIES | OCTOBER

112 cats. One unmarked door. And a sanctuary determined that cost will never decide who gets to live.

This month’s Rescue Stories takes us to Hoi An, Vietnam, and inside the remarkable work of Vietnam Cat Welfare.

Behind an intentionally discreet entrance, 112 rescued cats are given safety, veterinary care and a home. Some live with permanent disabilities. Others have survived abandonment, illness and trauma.

But this story is about more than rescue. It’s about education, sterilisation and changing attitudes towards animal welfare for the generations that follow.

“We want to help people understand that cats and all animals are living, loving, needing creatures. Just like us.”

We’re incredibly proud to sponsor Pets Magazine’s Rescue Stories, helping these stories — and the people behind them — reach a wider audience. 🤍

The hidden cost of pet trends 🐾

This month’s Rescue Stories in Pets Magazine tackles an important subject — how social media and changing trends can influence the dogs and cats people choose, and why health and welfare should always come before appearance.

Featuring Battersea, it’s a thought-provoking look at the consequences of breeding for exaggerated features and the importance of making responsible choices when welcoming a pet into our lives.

As proud sponsors of Rescue Stories, we’re pleased to support a series that keeps important conversations around rescue, responsible ownership and animal welfare in the spotlight. 🤍

🐾 An important update from Ruff Retreat HQ…

Our humans got married! 🤍

After months of hearing about the wedding, watching boxes appear everywhere and generally wondering when all the attention would return to us, they finally made it official. 😂

Naturally, no major Ruff Retreat event could possibly go ahead without the full HQ team in attendance.

We dressed for the occasion, supervised proceedings and made absolutely certain the photographer knew who the real VIPs were. 📸🐾

Mum & Dad scrubbed up pretty well too, so we’ve allowed them one photo to themselves. 😂🤍

A very special day for our little family, and one we thought we’d share with the lovely people who follow and support Ruff Retreat.

Love,
Toby, Coco & Blue

🐾 Rescue starts before rehoming.

This month’s Pets Magazine Rescue Stories, proudly sponsored by Ruff Retreat, shares Lynne and Doug’s story – a powerful reminder that sometimes the right support at the right time can keep pets and the people who love them together.

Rescue isn’t always about finding a new home – sometimes it’s about giving owners the support they need to keep their beloved pets by their side. Stories like these shine a light on the compassion, dedication and expertise that make that possible.

A huge thank you to Pets Magazine and Woodgreen Pets Charity for continuing to share these important stories.

💚 Because every pet deserves the chance to stay where they belong.

Supporting the stories that remind us why every pet deserves a safe, loving home.

INSIDE THE BOWL | VOLUME TWO

When we introduced Country Barn to Ruff Retreat, we wanted to do more than simply announce a new collection.

We wanted to explain why we chose it.

This second edition of Inside the Bowl explores the collection itself—from everyday favourites and more adventurous protein choices to dedicated puppy, senior and cat recipes, alongside functional treats designed to complement everyday wellbeing.

Every product in this collection has been selected because it reflects the same values that guide everything we do at Ruff Retreat: thoughtful design, quality ingredients and products we’d be happy to choose for our own pets.

We hope you’ve enjoyed following this launch series and discovering the collection with us.

Inside the Bowl | Volume One 🐾🤍

Choosing food for our pets can sometimes feel overwhelming.

There are countless brands, recipes and nutritional claims, making it difficult to know where to start.

When we introduced nutrition to Ruff Retreat, we didn’t want to simply add another range to our shelves.

We wanted to understand what makes a thoughtfully developed recipe before recommending it to our community.

That’s exactly why we created Inside the Bowl.

In this first edition, we explore some of the principles behind thoughtfully developed nutrition—from quality protein sources and balanced recipes to gentle cooking, life-stage nutrition and functional treats.

Our aim isn’t to tell you what to buy.

It’s to help you feel more informed and confident when choosing what’s right for your own pet.

Whether you share your home with a playful puppy, a senior companion or a much-loved cat, we hope this gives you a useful starting point.

Why did Ruff Retreat choose Country Barn?

When we decided to introduce nutrition to Ruff Retreat, we made ourselves one promise.

We wouldn’t simply add another pet food brand.

Instead, we’d take the same approach we’ve always taken with every product we stock: research first, curate carefully, and only introduce products we’d genuinely feel confident recommending.

That meant looking beyond attractive packaging and bold marketing claims.

We wanted to understand how the recipes were developed, the ingredients that went into them, and what made the brand genuinely different.

The more we learnt about Country Barn, the more it felt like a natural extension of everything Ruff Retreat already stands for.

From their approach to gently cooked recipes and thoughtfully selected ingredients, to complete nutrition for every life stage and functional treats designed to support everyday wellbeing, we found a philosophy that aligned with our own.

This isn’t just the launch of a new range.

It’s the beginning of a new chapter for Ruff Retreat—one that helps us support your pets’ wellbeing from the inside out.

At Ruff Retreat, we believe every animal deserves the chance to live a happy, fulfilled life. Whilst dogs will always be at the heart of what we do, compassion has no boundaries.

That’s why we’re so proud to sponsor the Rescue Stories feature in Pets Magazine, celebrating the extraordinary journeys of rescue animals and the remarkable people who dedicate their time, love and care to giving them a second chance. Every edition is a reminder that behind every rescue is a story of resilience, hope and unconditional love.

We’re delighted to be part of this journey and hope you’ll enjoy following these incredible stories with us. We’re honoured to begin by helping shine a light on Ronnie, this month’s very special rescue cat, and the journey that led him to a loving home.

We hope Ronnie’s story stays with you as much as it did with us. 🤍
